2019 Emmy Nominations: HBO And Game Of Thrones Get Tons Of Attention After Final Season

It's time to honor the very best that television has to offer. Not through Twitter posts and homemade costumes, but through the 71st annual Emmy Awards, which are set to air later this year.

The Good Place star D'Arcy Carden took the stage with comedian Ken Jeong to announce all the 2019 nominees. After joking about the heights of Jeong's medical education, and a reference to Carden's winning turn on HBO's Barry, they got down to business...eventually...after giving viewers time to go back and reflect on last year's winners. But without further ado, here's the sometimes sordid cream of the crop from the past year of television.

That's a lot of great nominees, right? Game of Thrones really stepped it up in the acting department across just about all levels. (We won't go into the writing portion of the Emmys here, though, don't worry.) Though the lead performance nominations were limited to Kit Harington and Emilia Clarke, the show earned a wealth of supporting actor noms, and even Carice van Houten got herself some recognition.

Elsewhere, HBO was still all over the place with a ton of nominations for Bill Hader's Barry, with the co-creator himself getting a nod. Not to mention all the other onscreen talent, and those behind the scenes. It even outshined the final season of Veep, though Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Tony Hale got their expected attention.

Don't forget to tune into the 2019 Emmy Awards when they air on Fox on Sunday, September 22, at 8:00 p.m. ET.
