Yul Vazquez Latest To Join Paul Greengrass Pic ‘The Lost Bus’

EXCLUSIVE: Yul Vazquez (Severance) has been tapped to star opposite Matthew McConaughey and America Ferrera in Apple Original Films’ Camp Fire drama The Lost Bus from writer Brad Ingelsby and director Paul Greengrass, joining in an undisclosed role.

Based on Lizzie Johnson’s novel Paradise: One Town’s Struggle to Survive an American Wildfire, the film is set during the disastrous 2018 Camp Fire that became the deadliest fire in California history. Pic will be told through the perspective of heroic bus driver Kevin McKay and schoolteacher Mary Ludwig, who helped navigate a bus full of children through a deadly wildfire, as the town of Paradise is caught in destruction and chaos.

Produced by Jamie Lee Curtis’ Comet Pictures, Jason Blum’s Blumhouse, Ingelsby and Greg Goodman, the film’s EPs are Lizzie Johnson and Amy Lord. Curtis got the ball rolling on development after hearing the author on NP, reading the book and bringing it to Blumhouse, where she has a first look deal.

Soon to be seen in MGM+’s crime thriller Hotel Cocaine, which premieres June 16, Vazquez is coming off of major roles on HBO’s White House Plumbers, Epix/MGM+’s Godfather of Harlem, ABC/Hulu’s Promised Land, and Apple TV+‘s Severance. Previously collaborating with Greengrass on 2013’s Somali pirate hijacking pic Captain Phillips, the actor has also in recent years been seen in films like HBO’s O.G., Richard Linklater’s Last Flag Flying, Crown Heights and Kill the Messenger.

In television, other recent credits for the actor include The Outsider, I Am the Night, Russian Dolls, Narcos: Mexico, Midnight, Texas, The Looming Tower, Divorce and Bloodline. Vazquez is repped by Gersh and Untitled Entertainment.
