33 of the cutest dogs from the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show

For 143 years, some of the prettiest dogs in the US have gathered once a year at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show.

The show features hundreds of dogs from across the States all converging at Madison Square Garden in New York City to win the title of best of their breed.

The show works like this: purebred dogs compete based on seven groups: toy, non-sporting, hound, terrier, herding, sporting and working.

The winners of each of these categories then go on to compete in the Best in Show competition.

While the Best in Show dog is yet to be announced, a longhaired Dachshund called ‘Walmar-Solo's OMG’ won the hound group stage and a Havanese called ‘Oeste's In The Name Of Love’ won the toy group competition.

The first Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show was held on May 8, 1877 making this the second-longest running sporting event in the US after the Kentucky Derby, which began in 1845.
