Broadway veteran Patti LuPone is back in the spotlight once again for cursing out a theatre fan!
The Hollywood icon is known for her work in musical theater, which has witnessed a surge in popularity on Broadway in recent years. She has won two Tony Awards, two Olivier Awards, and two Grammy Awards and is an alum of the American Theater Hall of Fame.
MEGAWhile her abilities are undeniably impressive when on show, the actress is also notorious for having a bad temper and seldom holds back when she is enraged about someone or anything.
Following a performance of her blockbuster musical “Company,” she was caught on camera yelling at a theater goer who had her mask on incorrectly, and the footage has since gone viral across social media channels.
Patti LuPone Rebuked Anonymous Broadway Patron
The heated event occurred on Monday night, shortly after LuPone and her costars had given the audience a classic exhibition of Broadway grandeur on the stage. The actress, now 73, was videoed yelling expletives at a Broadway Patron whom she saw without her mask from the stage.

“Put your mask over your nose, that’s why you’re in the theater,” LuPone said, blasting the anonymous patron for failing to keep to COVID-19 protocols.
The actress swiftly followed up her previous comment with a profanity-laced rant, expressing her displeasure with the individual’s behavior.
“That is the rule. If you don’t want to follow the rule, get the f–k out!” she added.
The dramatic moment on camera was captured by another audience member and sent to Twitter. It has since received almost a million views, thousands of likes, and continued reposts by its users.
The Two Had A Brief Exchange
As LuPone embarked on her diatribe against the anti-masker, the audience erupted in cheers in the clip. The Broadway veteran then went on to say that the individual’s conduct showed a lack of respect for others around her.
“Who do you think you are? That you do not respect the people that are sitting around you!” she questioned.
Instead of expressing regret for her actions, the attendee became enraged and informed the award-winning actress that the money she paid for her ticket was used to pay her salary. LuPone, on the other hand, was unfazed by the sarcastic comment and fired back with a fiery reaction that included even more expletives.
“Bulls–t! Chris Harper pays my salary!” the actress responded, referencing the name of her show’s producer.
LuPone Tested Positive For Covid-19 in February
The Broadway legend had earlier contracted COVID-19 in February and is only a few months back from full recovery. She announced her positive status on Twitter at the time, which caused her to miss the “Company’s” performance at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre in March.
MEGAHer message also indicated that she would be hospitalized for ten days to recuperate from the symptoms and restore her health. After completing the required seclusion days under the supervision of her doctors, she was given a clean bill of health.
LuPone’s viral diatribe seems a lot more excusable given that she’s experienced what it’s like to go down with Covid-19. Fans have also seen her actions as being suggestive of a need to want to protect others from facing a similar dilemma.
‘Company’
LuPone played Joanne in “Company,” and has been giving her customary great performance throughout the show’s run in several Broadway theaters. The production is a transfer from the West End Revival, which received nine Olivier Award nominations before closing in March 2019.
The latest revival of Stephen Sondheim’s iconic musical comedy was supposed to debut on March 22, 2020, on the late legendary composer’s 90th birthday, but it was postponed due to the COVID-19 epidemic. “Company” was finally released on December 9, 2021.
Instagram | companybwayLuPone previously played the character in a 2011 New York Philharmonic performance and a 2018 West End revival before revisiting it in the current Broadway revival in 2021. Marianne Elliott directed the latter two revivals, while Lonny Price spearheaded the first.
The actress received an Olivier Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role in a Musical for her work in the West End production. Her current run in the Broadway revival has now put her in a prime position to repeat the accomplishment.
