Brian Grazer recalls being miffed that ‘Apollo 13’ lost at the Oscars

Hollywood producer Brian Grazer revealed the Oscar that got away during a panel with collaborator Ron Howard at the 92nd Street Y.

When discussing his Academy Awards hopes for ’90s hit “Apollo 13,” Grazer said he was so sure presenter Sidney Poitier was about to announce it as Best Picture at the ceremony, he stood and reached for his speech.

Poitier announced “Braveheart” instead, and Grazer returned to his seat visibly upset.

But he was consoled by real-life astronaut Jim Lovell. The spaceman told the producer, “I never made it to the moon either.”

Grazer’s new book is “Face to Face: The Art of Human Connection.”
