‘Bridgerton’ Season 2: When Is The Period Drama Coming Back?

Many movie lovers enjoy watching a good drama series that fulfills their emotional yearnings correctly. However, despite the number of such shows that make it to the screen, only a few can be commended for giving a laudable performance.

On December 25, 2020, “Bridgerton” debuted for the first time on Netflix. The period drama gave fans a sweet combo of thrills, suspense, and mushy love, setting a benchmark for others to look up to. As such, ratings skyrocketed after viewers watched the eight-episode first season, and fans were left gasping at the climax in its finale.

After anticipating the promised sequel for almost a year, the showrunners disclosed the release date for the second season. Here is everything we know about the return of the drama series.

What Is The Release Date For ‘Bridgeton Two?’

At the 2021 TUDUM fan event, Netflix assured fans that their beloved series was on its way but gave no precise date on when the sequel will hit the screen. The blame squarely lied on the prevailing pandemic situation that interfered with the production process for a couple of months.

Fortunately, fans got more news about their favorite show weeks after the event. “Bridgeton” creator Chris Van Dusen revealed they had finished the shooting process, and producer Shonda Rhimes dropped that the editing process was almost done.

The hints from the showrunners only served to build anticipation for the upcoming sequel. Eventually, Netflix announced the official release date via the show’s Instagram page on December 25.
The post revealed that the new installment will debut on March 25, 2022. As per the words of one of the cast, fans are in for a treat when season two premieres.

Nicola Coughlan Teases The Second Season Will Be A ‘Whole Lot Spicer’

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, actor Nicola Coughlan gave some juicy info about the upcoming sequel. The starlet who portrayed Penelope, the youngest daughter of the Featherington’s, and close friend of the Bridgeton daughters, revealed that the next installment will be a “whole lot spicier.”

“It’s got a whole lot spicier – I will say. You definitely see more sides to [Penelope]. We find out at the end of season 1 [that she’s Lady Whistledown], that is there, but we don’t get to explore it,” Coughlan shared. “But the world cracks open. I feel like the Bridgerton world has grown, and you’re going to see a lot more sides to her. She’s a sassy chick.”

Chris Van Dusen Confesses About The Pressures Of Making Season Two

With fans’ expectations on the high side, it is unsurprising that the creative team felt burdened by the weight of achieving more success with the upcoming sequel.

In an interview with the Hollywood Reporter, Van Dusen talked about the pressures and why the next installment will be different from the first.
“It is a little different going [into it than] that first season now that it’s kind of a worldwide phenomenon,” he said,

“There are a lot more eyes and a lot more scrutiny, but I’ve always said this show comes with a healthy kind of pressure. Being inspired by these eight delicious romance novels, which already have a passionate fan following, the pressure is really baked in.”

What Fans Should Expect In Season Two

As the premiere date slowly draws near, fans have questions about what the new show will bring to the table. Luckily for them, the first look photos gave some hints on what might go down in the sequel.

Fans can expect Anthony Bridgeton (Jonathan Bailey) to fall for Kate Sharma (Simone Ashley), a member of the Sharma Family. Anthony is currently engaged to Kate’s sister, Edwina Sharma. However, a connection grows between him and Kate and embroils the trio in a love triangle.

This follows the second book in the series The Viscount Who Loved M, on which the “Bridgeton” script is based. In the meantime, fans can visit Netflix to watch episodes from season one.
