As Lawrence was making his way to the bus following Dallas' game against New York, one kid in a Saquon Barkley jersey asked the defensive end for an autograph. Not only did Lawrence dub the request, he also told the kid, "You need the right jersey," further breaking his heart.
This harsh denial drew Lawrence criticism from some fans. Yet, this didn't sway him into apologizing. Instead, he doubled down on his decision by claiming he was being honest with the kid. To him, a Giants fan doesn't deserve an autograph over the thousands of young Cowboys lovers that might not get an opportunity to meet him. He also stated this was the same tough love he'd give his own child and those who have a problem with it need to "suck it up."
The Cowboys won the game against their division rival in convincing fashion. Lawrence came up big in their 35-17 victory, recording a forced fumble, and 0.5 a sack.
