Watching them in the comfort of your home as it gets that little bit colder and darker outside? Even better.

You know the drill. Here's our list of the most eye-catching movies available on the box this evening, Wednesday 1 September...

The Eagle – Film 4 – 6.45pm

Channing Tatum and Jamie Bell embark on a dangerous mission in ancient times in a film that absolutely nobody remembers.

The Predator – Film 4 – 9pm

Shane Black returns to the Predator franchise with mixed results, but if you enjoy seeing the titular monster do his thing then there's plenty of gory fun in here for you.

Maximum Risk – TCM – 9pm

Jean-Claude Van Damme hits up New York's criminal underworld in search of bloody vengeance.

Vice – RTÉ One – 9.35pm

In our main pick for the evening, Christian Bale does the intense method thing as he steps into the controversial shoes – can shoes be controversial? I'm going somewhere with this, bear with me – of former US Vice President Dick Cheney. Amy Adams, Steve Carell and Sam Rockwell provide satirical support.

Death Race – ITV4 – 10pm

Framed for a horrible crime, Jason Statham ends up in a treacherous future-prison where the only way to win your freedom is to race... to the death. It's alright.

London Has Fallen – Comedy Central – 11pm

Gerard Butler brutalises stereotypical terrorists with supreme gusto in a film that is absolutely not a comedy. Unless you count some of the laughable CGI. Maybe that's why it's on Comedy Central.

Absolute Power – TCM – 11.10pm

Sleek elder cat-burglar Clint Eastwood witnesses a murder involving the US President. A messy fallout ensues. Not as entertaining as that Simpsons cat-burglar episode, admittedly.

Red Heat – Film 4 – 11.10pm

Arnie lays down the law in this 'fish out of water' late-1980s violent action-comedy.

Gloria Bell – BBC Two – 11.15pm

Under-seen indie comedy-drama in which the great Julianne Moore tries to find her bearings as a middle-aged divorcée in Los Angeles.
