Barrymore revealed she and Cox “became so close” while filming the 1996 horror movie that she reached out to her for advice.

“I remember at the poster shoot I was having a nervous breakdown because I was having a false sense of being pregnant,” Barrymore said.

She continued by telling Cox, “I kept asking you, ‘How do you know if you’re pregnant? We’re supposed to shoot this poster, but oh my God, I just started dating somebody, and how do you know?'”

The “Charlie’s Angels” actress said she “felt safe” in telling Cox at the time, saying she’s “the mature, safe person in the room.”

Cox responded, “I was the older one and I was the right person to ask!”

The Golden Globe winner is now a mom to two daughters, Olive, 9, and Frankie Kopelman, 7, whom she shares with ex-husband Will Kopelman. During a recent episode of her talk show, she opened up to Queer Eye star Bobby Berk, 40, about the struggles of dating as a single mom.

“I’m not there yet,” Barrymore, who has been single for six years, said of re-entering the dating scene.

She continued, “I have two young girls and, like, I don’t want to bring people home. … I think it would take me a very long time to meet someone and get to know them before I could even ever introduce them to my daughters.”

The interior design expert responded by assuring Barrymore that “being careful” with her children “means you’re a good mom.”

Berk added, “And I don’t think anybody knows how to do anything, right? So, don’t put pressure on yourself because you don’t know how to do it. I think going into it, saying to yourself, ‘I don’t know how to do it,’ is the first step of figuring out how to do it.”

He also told Barrymore, “You’re an amazing mother, don’t question that at all.”

She Felt Pressured

In an interview with Gayle King on “CBS This Morning,” Barrymore also opened up about the pressures of putting herself out there.

“My kids’ dad is happily remarried with the most wonderful woman in the world, Allie [Michler],” she told King. “My children have the most extraordinary stepmom. And our processes have been different. Their side of the street has been so functional and whole and happening. And I think I’ve been on the sidelines in a beautiful honoring purgatory.”

Barrymore has watched Kopelman begin a beautiful new marriage, and it caused her to feel pressured on doing the same. She likes the idea of a new romance, but she doesn’t know how to start.

“I’ll go on an occasional date, but that’s only in the last like two years,” Barrymore said.

Pandemic Dating

She also noted that online dating and the current pandemic complicate things even more.

“It took me four to even step out there. And people have different processes. Then, enter a pandemic,” Barrymore said, while and admitted that she tends to find Zoom dates “unromantic.”

She added, “They’re a reminder to me of the state of the world we’re living in.”

Barrymore admitted she tried online dating, noting that it can be “so hard on dating apps.”

“I feel like I’m always swiping left because they are too young [or] I don’t know who they are,” she said while talking to King alongside her co-hosts Tony Dokoupil and Nate Burleson on her show in November.

Still Using The Apps

The actress confirmed that she still uses dating apps after previously stating that she would stop.

“I dip in and out,” Barrymore said. “Every once in a while, and then I, like, freak out and jump off.”

She also suggested to King that she should use the apps too, but the broadcast journalist said she was not so confident in using the internet to find love.

“If I could do it and people wouldn’t know it was me, I would do it,” King said. “I wish I was brave enough to do it, I do. I prefer to meet somebody through a friend of a friend of a friend or you meet somebody somewhere.”

She added, “But I believe that there’s a lot of nice, single people out and we’re like… ships passing through the night, just going past each other.”
