During his conversation with host Seth Meyers, Page was asked how he has dealt with the “negative reactions” from random people and strangers since he came out. The 35-year-old Oscar nominee replied, “What I want to focus on right now and has been so extraordinary is the degree of joy that I feel, the degree of presence that I feel.”

He continued, “I feel a way that I really never thought possible for a long, long time. So that’s really what I’m focussing on and embracing the most. But, of course, moments can be overwhelming.”

Page explained that people have different “expectations, sort of limits and constraints” in their lives, which has caused an obsession over “how we’re supposed to live our lives.” He said, “To me, it’d be so special for us to all be able to connect and talk about how similar we are in all of our journeys.”

During his cover interview for Esquire‘s Summer 2022 issue, Page recalled how he felt when he was a closeted person during the awards season for his breakout film role, “Juno.” He said, “I was closeted, dressed in heels and the whole look — I wasn’t okay, and I didn’t know how to talk about that with anyone.”

He spoke about how all the days were generally bad and said, “When Juno was blowing up — this sounds strange to people, and I get that people don’t understand. Oh, f— you, you’re famous, and you have money, and you had to wear a dress, boo-hoo. I don’t not understand that reaction.”

He continued, “But that’s mixed with: I wish people would understand that that s— literally did almost kill me.” During the interview, Page also revealed that he is set to publish his memoir, titled “Pageboy,” sometime next year.

Life Is Easier For Him Now

During his appearance on “Late Night with Seth Meyers,” Page also explained how much life is easier for him now that he has come out. He said, “It’s a beautiful thing to experience now. Because a lot of the time my life was just trying to move forward, so getting to embrace the experience as much as I get to now. I think it’s made me better in so many facets. As a person, as a friend, relationships.”

As the interview concluded, Meyers said, “Personally, it is really lovely to hear how much joy it’s brought you, and thank you so much for sharing it with us and continuing to make it a story that other people can hear. It was really nice to see you again.”

Elliot Page Always Knew He Was Trans

Page also recently had an interview with Vanity Fair, where he spoke to trans journalist Thomas Page McBee about his joy, creativity, and anti-trans legislation. During the interview, he revealed that he had always “absolutely” known that he was a boy, even as a young kid.

He said, “I was writing fake love letters and signing them ‘Jason.’ Every little aspect of my life, that is who I was, who I am and who I knew myself to be. I just couldn’t understand when I’d be told, ‘No, you’re not. No, you can’t be that when you’re older.’ “

He continued, “Now I’m finally getting myself back to feeling like who I am, and it’s so beautiful and extraordinary, and there’s a grief to it in a way.” Many of Page’s fans have been extremely supportive and noted how much happier he seems since coming out.
