Grab an umbrella. But also enjoy occasional sunshine?

Wherever you stand on the whole 'Autumn begins on the first of September' thing, we can all agree that there has been a rapid change in the weather, temperature and general mood over the past few days.

It's that little bit greyer, that little bit colder and that little bit darker that little bit earlier. In other words, it's September.

What does this weekend look like, then?

FRIDAY

Met Éireann says to expect a mostly dry day with the chance of a few passing showers, though there is also the possibility of occasional sunny spells. The best of the mild sunshine will be located within the northeast of the country. Highest temperatures should reach between 16 and 19 degrees.

As for Friday evening, things should be dry and clear enough with the potential of a few patches of mist and drizzle. Temperatures, naturally, will drop a little bit to between 9 and 12 degrees.

SATURDAY

If I said 'a mix of sunny spells and light showers', would you be hugely surprised? Well, that's what we're getting for the most part on Saturday morning and afternoon alongside highest temperatures of 18 to 21 degrees in light south or southeast winds.

Saturday night looks like it will start off dry before rain develops in the southwest. Temperatures should dip to about 13 or 14 degrees.

SUNDAY

Ah yes, the greatest words in the English language – "outbreak of rain".

According to Met Éireann, rain will push up over the western half of the country on Sunday morning before it envelops "much of the country" by the afternoon. Lovely.

You might avoid it if you're in the south and southeast, though. Generally, temperatures should hit a high of 17 to 20 or 21 degrees, so it's not all terrible.

As for Sunday evening, further outbreaks of rain will clear eastwards following by isolated showers. Expect it to be cloudy and "quite humid" overnight with temperatures of around 15 degrees.

September, baby.
