Is it all over for Kanye West in fashion?
Fashion insiders are divided over the fate of “Ye” after he sent models down the runway wearing “White Lives Matter” t-shirts at Paris Fashion Week, and then bullied a Vogue editor for critiquing the decision.
“It’s a wrap. People were disgusted and outraged,” one fashion insider told Page Six.
Another one believes, “if you have money, you’ll never be canceled.”
The one thing that most agree on is that the move infuriated people in attendance at the show, including Vogue editor Gabriella Karefa-Johnson who called the design “indefensible behavior.”
Karefa-Johnson’s critique sparked West to attack her style on social media, which further angered fashion types including Gigi Hadid, Supreme creative director Tremaine Emory, and the fashion bible itself, Vogue.
A fashion insider, who attended Ye’s show, pointed out that the overwhelming response to Karefa-Johnson is proof the fashion crowd has already moved on from West.
“Gabby is pretty great, so people are coalescing around his comments about her. No one’s really talking about the t-shirt anymore,” they said.
Vogue came to Karefa-Johnson’s defense by posting a statement saying she “was personally targeted and bullied. It is unacceptable… in a private meeting with Ye [on Tuesday] she once again spoke her truth in a way she felt best, on her terms.”
The meeting was filmed by “Moulin Rouge!” director Baz Luhrmann according to Ye, which made, “the whole thing feel performative,” the third fashion source said.
“A video with Baz Luhrmann? F–k off! He directed a video between Kanye and Gabby, who he tried to humiliate? Now, it’s [going to be] turned into more advertising, more money, more views, more clicks,” they added.
The first source believes industry support of Karefa-Johnson is what forced Vogue to respond. Meanwhile, West’s collection remains up on Vogue’s site sans the “White Lives Matter” t-shirts. A rep for the magazine did not comment.
Our second source, however, says that the Yeezy show will go on, likening it all to Dolce & Gabbana’s past fashion controversies.

“Kanye has a brand… so if [it] wants to run advertising in a magazine, they’re going to take his money, similar to Dolce & Gabbana. Fashion needs money. If you have money, you’ll never be canceled,” they said.

“Who should play me in a Ye movie?” he posted on Instagram on Wednesday. “My pick is Jamie Foxx. One of the greatest geniuses,” he said.
