Next year is shaping up to be a busy one for Ben Affleck, with a whopping five films on his acting slate – either being released or shooting in 2020 – as well as developing his next project as director. And now we’ve got an initial look at the first of those films out of the gate…
Finding The Way Back – simply titled The Way Back in the US – features Affleck’s first big-screen role (bar a cameo in the upcoming Jay & Silent Bob Reboot) since 2017’s Justice League and his uncoupling from the DC Extended Universe.
In it, Affleck plays Jack Cunningham, a former basketball prodigy whose adult life is spiralling downwards after a tragic loss and is now plagued by alcoholism. He gets a chance at redemption when he’s asked to coach his old high-school basketball team and reverse their losing streak – a job he reluctantly accepts. Will setting the lads on the path to success help him confront his own demons, though?

Finding The Way Back is directed by Warrior’s Gavin O’Connor, who previously worked with Affleck on 2016 thriller The Accountant, and written by Brad Ingelsby (who previously scripted Liam Neeson’s mob actioner, Run All Night).
Affleck’s other upcoming projects include (deep breath): Netflix crime drama The Last Thing He Wanted, opposite Anne Hathaway; Adrian Lyne’s erotic thriller Deep Water; Ridley Scott’s historical epic The Last Duel (in which he’ll be reuniting with best bud Matt Damon) and Robert Rodriguez’s sci-fi detective movie, Hypnotic. He’s also busy developing his next outing behind the camera, Ghost Army – a WW2 movie about an unconventional squadron of US soldiers tasked with playing tricks on the German army (it’ll be his first film as director since 2016’s Live By Night).
Before all that, though, Finding The Way Back will hit UK cinemas on 13 March 2020.
