Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins passed away suddenly at age 50.
Although his cause of death was not disclosed in a statement posted to the band’s Facebook page on Friday night, new evidence is leading officials to suspect that his cause of death was drug-related.
Officials Found ‘Cocaine-Like Powder’ In Taylor Hawkins’ Hotel Room
MEGAAccording to The Daily Mail, a Bogota-based director of radio FM station claimed that a police officer who entered Hawkins’ hotel room saw a “cocaine like powder” in his hotel. Taylor had been staying with the band at a hotel room in Bogota, Colombia, in a series of tours in South America. They had recently played a concert in San Isidro, Argentina, last Sunday, which would mark Hawkins’ final performance.
Although drug use has not been confirmed at this time, Hawkins has been open about his drug use in the past. The drummer, who has been open about his struggles with addiction in the past, was left in a coma for a week following a heroin overdose in London. Although the event happened in 2001, Hawkins reflected on the event in an interview with Kerrang! twenty years later in 2021.

I believed the bull—- myth of live hard and fast, die young. I’m not here to preach about not doing drugs, because I loved doing drugs, but I just got out of control for a while and it almost got me.”
“I was heading down a road that was going to lead to even worse paths. Whether someone’s sober, or they like a glass of wine with dinner, or they want a bottle of Jägermeister before they go on stage, or they like to smoke doobies all day long, everyone has their own path, and I took it too far,” he continued. “I’m glad it got knocked on the head at that point. I wouldn’t take anything away that I’ve done or been through either, because it’s all part of the trip and the journey. I’m trying to be as candid as I can be.”
Columbian Journalist Reports Beer And White Powder ‘Similar To Cocaine’ In His Hotel Room
MEGAColumbian journalist Luis Carlos Velez also claimed that there was a white powder “similar to cocaine” found in the hotel room. He also reported that authorities found an empty beer can, an open bottle of vodka, a bottle of Coca-Cola, and “some other articles” which are currently being analyzed by authorities.
Witnesses at the hotel told Velez that Hawkins had called the front desk because he was having “chest pain.” He was later found dead in his hotel room.
MEGAColombia’s State Prosecution Service released a statement saying, “As soon as we were made aware of the death of foreign national Taylor Hawkins, the Foo Fighters drummer, who was staying at a hotel in the north of Bogota, a team of prosecutors and investigators was mobilized to deal with urgent matters and support the investigation.”
At this time, officials have released no confirmation that there were drugs found in his hotel room or that his death was drug-related.

The band, which had been inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame by “The Beatles” Paul McCartney late last year, announced the news on Twitter.
“The Foo Fighters family Is devastated by the tragic and untimely loss of our beloved Taylor Hawkins,” the band wrote in a brief statement. “His musical spirit and infectious laughter will live on with all of us forever. Our hearts go out to his wife, children and family, and we ask that their privacy be treated with the utmost respect in this unimaginably difficult time.”
MEGAMany fans also sent out positive thoughts and condolences to Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl. Grohl had been the drummer for Nirvana when Kurt Cobain passed away in 1994. Grohl and Hawkins were especially close. In his 2021 book, “The Storyteller,” Grohl called Hawkins his “brother from another mother, my best friend, a man for whom I would take a bullet.”
