‘Moon Knight’ Director Says ‘We Don’t Know’ If There’s A Season 2

‘Moon Knight’ Director Says ‘We Don’t Know’ If There’s A Season 2

On Wednesday, “Moon Knight” aired its sixth and final episode. Although the finale left many unanswered questions, the after-credits scene hinted at the teased fourth alter-ego, leading many to believe that it was a lead-up to the show’s second season.

Although Ethan Hawke’s character, Arthur Harrow, is doubtful to make a return, many fans are looking forward to seeing Oscar Isaac play out his new personality, Jake Lockley. However, it remains to be seen if Isaac will ever return to “Moon Knight,” given his hesitation to embrace the Marvel series, to begin with.

Even director and executive producer Mohammed Diab confessed to Deadline that he isn’t sure that Disney will greenlight a second season of the superhero series.

Immediately after the finale aired, Diab told the outlet, “We don’t know if there’s a next season.”

“Marvel doesn’t go with a conventional way, so even if they like the character and want to extend the world, it could be season 2, it could be a standalone film, or he can join another superhero’s journey,” he continued. “I’m kept in the dark, just like the fans.”

“We never discussed it being a season 2, but one day there’s going to be an expansion, but I don’t know what it’s going to look like,” he added.

Another “Moon Knight” executive producer, Grant Curtis, also cast doubt as to when fans will get to see Oscar Isaac reprise his role as Marc Spector.

“Where Moon Knight lands in MCU after this, I actually don’t know,” Curtis admitted. “As a fan, I want to know, because Oscar created such an engaging, emotional performance that people want to see more of the Steven-Marc-Jake story.”

Diab also admitted that Jake’s identity was always supposed to be revealed in the show’s final episode. However, he admitted that Steven and Marc waking up in their London flat “wasn’t always the case.” Diab didn’t reveal what other possible endings he had imagined for the pair, but the play always was for Steven and Marc to come together again and finally join forces.

Will ‘Moon Knight’ Feature A New Avatar?

Throughout the season, Marc Spector’s wife Layla, played by May Calamawy, was teased as a possible new avatar for Khonshu. However, she shocked fans in the finale when she finally permitted herself to be the avatar for the Egyptian goddess Tawaret, gaining superhero powers of her own.

“We kept it open because this could be Layla’s beginning,” Diab explained. “I want it to be a temporary avatar.”

“Having her partner with someone completely different from her, (like) Tawaret, would be so interesting and they can drive each other crazy,” he added. “Her learning, does she need to be a superhero now, or not, because she hates the idea right now, or maybe she needs to learn it’s important or not. There’s so much room to go there. I don’t know what’s going to happen.”

It’s still unclear whether or not there will be a second season of “Moon Knight,” but fans have their fingers crossed. Until then, there are always the comics to fall back on!
