Garrett Hedlund reportedly tried to jump out of car before arrest

Garrett Hedlund’s behavior leading up to his arrest for public intoxication sparked concern that he was a danger to himself among a witness and police, according to a new report.

The man who called the authorities on the “Country Strong” star also claimed Hedlund attempted to jump out of a car earlier in the day, TMZ reported, citing legal documents.

Hedlund’s rep couldn’t be reached for comment.

The “Friday Night Lights” actor, 37, was arrested Saturday night in Tennessee and taken into custody in Franklin County and eventually released on a $2,100 bond. He’s due back in court in March.

The arrest occurred just one day after news broke that Hedlund split from girlfriend Emma Roberts. The two share a 1-year-old son named Rhodes.

Hedlund and Roberts, 30, called it quits a few weeks ago following a rocky few months in their relationship, People reported last week.

“It’s sad, and they are trying their best to co-parent. It’s been hard,” an insider told the outlet.

The “Scream Queens” alum and Hedlund were linked as a couple since March 2019, when they were spotted holding hands in Los Angeles. The pair announced the Roberts’ pregnancy in August 2020 before welcoming baby Rhodes in December 2020.

Hedlund’s public-intoxication arrest is just the latest in a series of legal issues for him; he’s also being sued for negligence after allegedly causing a head-on collision because he nodded off at the wheel.

In court docs obtained by E! News, Hedlund allegedly “passed out behind the wheel of his vehicle and ran a solid red-light at a high rate of speed,” forcing him to crash into Marina Venegas and her daughter, Jennifer Castillo.

Hedlund was arrested on two DUI charges in February 2020. He was arraigned the same month and was released after posting a $100,000 bond.
