Singer Taylor Swift and actor Joe Alwyn are super secretive about their relationship.
In fact, rumors started swirling early this year that the two had gotten engaged on a brief trip to the Lakes region, which the “All Too Well” singer wrote about in one of her tracks. Those rumors have resurfaced, but Taylor and Joe apparently have no plans to confirm or deny the rumors.
Still, it does leaves many fans wondering exactly how long they’ve been together… so let’s take a look!
Taylor Swift Wrote About Meeting Joe Alwyn In The Song ‘Dress’ (Or So Swifties Believe!)

The two attended the 2016 Met Gala together. The “Red” singer had been dating DJ Calvin Harris at the time, but he did not attend the event with her.
In 2017, Taylor seems to refer to their meeting in the song “Dress,” with the lyrics “Flashback when you met me / Your buzzcut and my hair bleached.”

She also seems to refer to their meeting in 2017’s “Gorgeous” with the lyrics, “And I got a boyfriend, he’s older than us / He’s in the club doing, I don’t know what.” Later in the song, she sings, “You make me so happy, it turns back to sad / There’s nothing I hate more than what I can’t have.”
It should be known that Taylor never confirms who her songs are about, so this is just speculation. However, shortly after meeting the “Conversations with Friends” actor at the Met Gala, Taylor and Calvin broke up that summer. In October, they were spotted attending the Kings of Leon concert in October, leading to speculation that they were an item.
Taylor Swift & Joe Alwyn Started Secretly Dating In 2016, Sources Say
According to a May 2017 article published by The Sun, Taylor and Joe had been secretly dating for months. The source told the outlet that she used her private jet to fly to England to see him and “her security has made it like a military-like mission to prevent her from being seen.”
In December 2017, it seems their relationship was confirmed when they were photographed holding hands after her performance at Z100’s Jingle Ball. In March 2018, the two went on a hike together in Malibu.
A source told Page Six at the time that the couple “seemed very intimate and deep in conversation – despite having her bodyguard trailing 20 feet behind them.”
Taylor & Joe Wait Until September 2018 To Confirm Their Relationship
In August 2018, the couple drove fans nuts when they both posed for photos in front of the same cactus and posted pictures on their Instagram accounts. A month later, the “Stars at Noon” actor told British Vogue that they were dating.
At the time, Joe said, “I’m aware people want to know about that side of things. I think we have been successfully very private, and that has now sunk in for people … but I really prefer to talk about work.”
In 2020, Swift told singer Paul McCartney in an interview for Rolling Stone that her relationship with the English actor helps give her a sense of “normalcy” in her life.
“I think that in knowing him and being in the relationship I am in now, I have definitely made decisions that have made my life feel more like a real-life and less like just a storyline to be commented on,” she said at the time.
“Whether that’s deciding where to live, who to hang out with, when to not take a picture … it’s really just trying to find bits of normalcy,” she added.
In a recent interview for WSJ. Magazine‘s May issue, the “Boy Erased” actor joked, “If I had a pound for every time I think I’ve been told I’ve been engaged, then I’d have a lot of pound coins.”
He added that he “wouldn’t say” if he was really engaged to the “Enchanted” singer or not. “I mean, the truth is, if the answer was yes, I wouldn’t say, and if the answer was no, I wouldn’t say,” he told them.
“If you give it to them, it just opens the door,” Alwyn added.

Earlier this month, the “Out of the Woods” singer was photographed spending time with her possible fiance in the water and along the beach.

In some of the photos, Taylor wraps her arms around his neck as the two kiss, which is probably the most PDA-packed photo that fans have of the couple.
Earlier this week, The Sun reported that the couple has “only told” their inner circle about their engagement. This inner circle reportedly includes their immediate family and “trusted, very old friends.”
“Everyone has been sworn to secrecy, too,” the source added, noting that the “Red” singer only wears her “beautiful ring” in private.

It seems that Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn are enjoying keeping their relationship private. Although fans would love to know for sure, Swifties are just glad that Taylor is happy.
