‘House Of The Dragon’ Star Olivia Cooke Had First Day Of Shooting After Partying All Night

Actress Olivia Cooke, currently playing older Alicent Hightower, admitted to being very hungover the day “House of the Dragon” filming started. The actress’ character is the best friend and, in later episodes, stepmother of Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen, played by Milly Alcock.

Cooke detailed her first day filming “House of the Dragon,” particularly what happened prior to the first day. According to the actress, she attended a podcast interview the day before and got really drunk. The overindulgence led to a hangover the next day, which the 28-year-old apparently managed to hide.

Cooke joined “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” for an interview recently and talked about her first day filming the “Game of Thrones” prequel. According to the actress, she was invited to a podcast hosted by Alan Carr the day before filming for “House of the Dragon” kicked off.

The 28-year-old revealed that she took a bottle of wine along as a “gesture” to the British comedian’s podcast; however, she ended up overindulging herself.

“It was amazing, and I was very hungover,” Cooke recalled. “Really bad. I never do that. [Alan Carr has] got a podcast he invited me to be on the podcast, and I was very excited, and my call time the next day wasn’t until 11, so I brought a bottle of wine just as a gesture.”

After the duo wrapped up the podcast recording, Cooke revealed that they spent some time together talking about several things and eventually opened up the bottle of wine she had previously purchased. After drinking the wine, the 28-year-old revealed that she was so drunk she couldn’t recall when she got home.

“I don’t remember getting home. I remember, I tipped my head down to put my hair in a pony, fell over,” the actress said. “I woke up the next day, and I had a chip in my tooth. Very slight chip, but enough that the tongue magnifies it. And you’re like, ‘What have I done?’ No one knew on set until now.”

The “House of the Dragon” star revealed that she eventually “fixed” the chip on her tooth; however, it cracked again last week after she bit on a baguette. Cooke added, “This is Alan Carr’s fault. I just wanted him to like me.”

‘House Of The Dragon’ Had A Time Jump

At the start of the series, fans were introduced to Emily Carey as Alicent, while Alcock played Princess Rhaenyra. The actresses played the characters while they were between 14 to 18 years for the first five episodes of the HBO hit series.

Episode six of “House of the Dragon” had a massive 10-year time jump which saw the two characters, as well as the twins Laena and Laenor Velaryon, recast. Cooke took on the role of Alicent Hightower, while Emma D’Arcy is currently playing Rhaenyra.

Ryan Condal, the series’s co-creator, conducted a round table interview (per Insider) where he revealed that the decision to have two actors play the roles was reached “early on.”

“The people that are truly children in this are the ones that get recast, “Condal said. “And the people that are already adults when we meet them, we age them up through hair and makeup, and sometimes the actors change their voice.”

Matt Smith Said It Was ‘Brilliant”

While fans did not particularly like the idea of switching actors, some “House of the Dragon” cast members revealed that they thought the idea was “brilliant.” Matt Smith, who plays Daemon Targaryen, Rhaenyra’s uncle, joined E! News in an interview to say just that.

The actor said, “It was brilliant, actually, because I think they’ve done brilliant work. It gave you a completely different context for the age thing to play off.” Paddy Considine, who plays King Viserys Targaryen, seconded Smith’s comment. He revealed that he “loved” it because while they were different characters, they brought in different energy.

Laena and Laenor, who Savannah Steyn and Theo Nate previously played, will be switched to Nanna Blondell and John MacMillan, respectively. Episode six will also introduce the first son of Viserys and Alicent, Aegon Targaryen (Tom Glynn-Carney).
