The original “Star Wars” movie, “A New Hope,” first came out on May 25, 1977, which will mark the 45th anniversary of the iconic movie that started it all.

It also started the careers of many notable actors. Here’s a brief look at some of the stars from the original trilogy and where they’re at today.


Mark Hamill Continued To Reprise His ‘Star Wars’ Role

After playing Luke Skywalker in the original trilogy, Mark Hamill continued to reprise his role in the sequel trilogy and in various Disney+ live-action series, including “The Mandalorian” and “The Book of Boba Fett” as a de-aged Luke Skywalker.


Since his time on “Star Wars,” he has appeared as a voice actor in many projects, most notably as the voice of the Joker in several “Batman” projects. He voices Kavaxas in “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,” Arnim Zola in “Ultimate Spider-Man,” and even Master Eraqus in the English version of the “Kingdom Hearts” video game.


One of Mark Hamill’s upcoming roles is in the Netflix series “The Fall of the House of Usher,” which was created by horror master Mike Flanagan. The name of his character has not been disclosed as of yet, but it was teased that he is “surprisingly at home in the shadows.”


Harrison Ford Is Known For Both ‘Star Wars’ And ‘Indiana Jones’

It’s hard to choose whether fans love Harrison Ford as Han Solo or Indiana Jones. In February, Ford recently wrapped up filming on the still untitled “Indiana Jones 5.” He will also appear in a new Apple TV+ series called “Shrinking” as Dr. Phil Rhodes.


In 2020, Ford appeared as John Thornton in “The Call of the Wild” and voiced the Rooster in “The Secret Life of Pets 2.” Before that, he had a role in 2017’s “Blade Runner 2049,” where he reprised his role as Rick Deckard.


Other notable Ford roles include 2002’s “K-19: The Widowmaker,” 2000’s “What Lies Beneath,” 1997’s “Air Force One,” 1994’s “Clear and Present Danger” and 1993’s “The Fugitive.”


Carrie Fisher Passed Away While Filming The ‘Star Wars’ Sequel Trilogy

Carrie Fisher passed away on December 27, 2016, after “The Last Jedi” had wrapped filming but before the movie came out. She had a heart attack on a flight to Los Angeles four days earlier and passed away in the hospital at 60 years old.


Her mother, “Singing’ in the Rain” actress Debbie Reynolds passed away from a stroke a day after Fisher passed away, leaving actress Billie Lourd without a mother or grandmother. Although Fisher had a few smaller TV and film roles before her death, it was her books, like “The Princess Diarist” and “Wishful Drinking” that really made an impact with fans.


Despite all of her roles, she will always be known as Princess Leia, and later, General Organa.


Sir Alec Guinness Passed Away On August 5, 2000

Sadly, Sir Alec Guinness, who played Obi-Wan Kenobi, passed away on August 5, 2000. He was born on April 2, 1914. Guinness got his start in stage plays, but also had notable roles in “Lawrence of Arabia” and “The Bridge on the River Kwai.”


The actor inside the iconic Darth Vader suit, David Prowse, passed away on November 28, 2020. The voice of Darth Vader, James Earl Jones, is alive and well at 91 years old.


Kenny Baker, who appeared as R2-D2, passed away in 2016, but C-3PO, played by Anthony Daniels, is still alive at 76 years old. Warwick Davis, who also had several roles in the “Harry Potter” films, played the Ewok Wicket in “Return of the Jedi.”


Peter Cushing, the man behind Grand Moff Wilhuff Tarkin, passed away in 1994. Julian Glover, who played General Veers, is still alive at 87.
