‘Insensitive’ Ulta Beauty Kate Spade Email Slammed As ‘Disgusting’

It seems Ulta Beauty didn’t proofread their latest email before they sent it out.

On Sunday, the beauty brand sent out an email with the subject line “Come hang with Kate Spade” while promoting their new “Sparkle” perfume. Tragically, Kate Spade took her own life by hanging herself in 2018 at the age of 55.  Her husband, Andy, said that she had been battling “personal demons,” including anxiety and depression.

“Ulta Beauty recently sent an email featuring Kate Spade New York fragrance with an insensitive subject line and for this, we sincerely apologize,” they said in a statement. “Mental health is a very serious, important issue in this country, and not something we would ever take lightly. We apologize to the Spade family, our Kate Spade New York brand partners and to our guests. Thank you for understanding as we strive to do better.”

Although they apologized, it did little to stop the tweets from rolling in, calling out the brand’s “disgusting” gaff.

Fans Ask Ulta Beauty ‘Is This Some Kind Of Sick Joke?’

One user commented, “I cannot believe I got this email today. Is this some kind of sick joke? How insensitive and absolutely tone deaf. Apparently nobody in marketing at Ulta remembers how Kate Spade died. Disgusting.”

“Received the Ulta email about the insensitivity regarding Kate Spade & I don’t know how you make such an egregious error like that,” another user wrote. “As a former digital manager… no one caught that before hitting send?? Wow. Eclipse season is getting folks down bad.”

“Ulta sending a promo email saying “come hang with Kate spade” and then sending an apology email for being insensitive because she hung herself in 2018 I’m………….” another user added.

“Whoever wrote the incredibly crass email headline at Ulta for the Kate Spade event yesterday also managed to do it on the first day of Mental Health Awareness Month,” another user pointed out. “An ignominious start by demonstrating the carelessness people tend to have around this topic.”

Hopefully, Ulta Beauty will be much more careful with their emails in the future.
