Jamie Lee Curtis Takes A Swipe At ‘Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness’

Marvel recently debuted their newest blockbuster picture, “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,” a sequel to 2016’s “Doctor Strange.” The latest action thriller, expanded on the premise of a multiverse with various versions of the same person living similar or wholly different lives (as was seen in the studios previous movie, “Spider-Man: No Way Home”).

Prior to the release of “Doctor Strange 2,” Jamie Lee Curtis‘ “Everything Everywhere All At Once” was released in theaters. The action thriller successfully showed that the MCU isn’t the only location where a multiverse may exist, leading to various parallels between it and “Doctor Strange.”

While “Doctor Strange 2” included a lot of CGI, which cost a lot of money and took a long time to develop, Curtis just disclosed that her picture cost a lot less, and she appears to be putting the two films against each other.

Jamie Lee Curtis Sparks Comparisons Between ‘EEAAO’ And ‘Doctor Strange 2’

Curtis recently took to her Instagram page to hype her own movie, “Everything Everywhere All at Once.” Without mincing words, she drew comparisons between her film and Marvel’s “Doctor Strange 2,” claiming that hers was less expensive to produce yet nevertheless delivered on all fronts.

“Everything Everywhere All at Once is MARVELOUS! It has a deep BEATING heart and BRILLIANT visual treats, EXTRAORDINARY performances, and FANTASTIC BEASTLY FIGHT SCENES…… AND it COST LESS than the ENTIRE craft service budget on Doctor Strange and/or any other Marvel movie,” she said via her social media account.

The fact that her film and Marvel’s newest movie both featured a multiverse-spanning quest added validity to the Hollywood veteran’s diatribe. However, this has not translated to a stronger box office success, with “Doctor Strange 2” grossing over a hundred million dollars in its first week, while “Everything Everywhere All at Once” is still lagging well behind despite being in cinemas for more than a month.

Curtis Trashed Marvel’s ‘Doctor Strange’ Sequel

In an earlier post, Curtis had thrown a jab at Marvel’s “Doctor Strange 2” movie. She focused on the film’s various posters, which she displayed in her new post side by side, calling the Marvel poster a copy of her movie EEAAO’s poster.

She not only promoted her independent film but also blasted Marvel’s “Doctor Strange 2” by using phrases with a subtle, underlying connotation that was coy but clear. The Hollywood veteran also alluded to her movie’s excellent ensemble as if to imply that her own picture could hold its own against the big names.

One could argue that Curtis’ passionate rant was a clever marketing ploy to increase viewer ratings for her picture, much as Marvel’s marketing team has done for their own blockbuster. Whatever her motivation, fans did not take her criticism of “Doctor Strange 2” lightly and responded heavily in her comment section.

Fans Had Mixed Reactions To Curtis’ Instagram Rant

Curtis’ Instagram comment section was hit with several responses from fans who wanted to air their view following her post. While some laughed at the sheer audacity of the Hollywood veteran in comparing her film with Marvel’s juggernaut, others pointed out the error of her ways by sharing some advice.

One fan said, “There really isn’t the need to start fights like this. It just seems pointless. Both films are great in their respective ways to their specific audiences. There’s no need for competition nor need to brag on who has the best multiverse movie. There are more important things that can be discussed.”

Another fan said, “Lol I was excited to see both…shame that you needed to bash the other. Doesn’t look good on you…being petty.”

One follower commented, “Don’t bash on other films. You’re beneath that. People worked hard on that movie and will bring joy to a lot of people.”

Jamie Lee Curtis’s Film & Marvel’s Blockbuster Share More Differences Than Similarities

While both films are rich in multiverse mythology, they take distinct paths in delivering this concept. Curtis’ film centered on an ordinary laundry house owner who confronts an alternative version of her daughter in order to preserve numerous realities.

In comparison, “Doctor Strange 2” starred former sorcerer supreme Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) fending off his disillusioned sorcery colleague Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen), who was hell-bent on draining juvenile heroine America Chavez of her powers to traverse the multiverse.

Both films have also received different reactions from viewers and critics. “Everything Everywhere All at Once” was praised for its unique characters, storyline, and action. Meanwhile, Marvel’s “Doctor Strange” received critical acclaim for its action yet comic-filled scenes and the return of some MCU veterans.

Frankly, there’s more than enough room for the two multiverse concepts, and if a comparison must be made, it seems fair to leave it to the fans for whom the films were produced.
