Irish Weather Forecast: Met Eireann says temperatures to drop overnight this weekend

We have been enjoying a mild start to 2019, but the good weather isn't going to last much longer.

Met Eireann says that the country can expect cooler temperatures as strong winds and rain are on their way back.

Today's weather is expected to be dry with some patches of mist and drizzle.

Temperatures will be between 8 to 11 degrees Celsius with "light west to southwest breezes" in the west and northwest of the country later, according to a note on Met.ie .

The forecast continues:

"Dry in most places at first tonight with patchy mist and fog. Outbreaks of rain and drizzle will push into the west and northwest before midnight, preceded by freshening west to southwest winds.

"The damp and breezy conditions will extend southeastwards over the rest of the country overnight, with the rain and drizzle will become lighter and patchier as it does so. Scattered light showers and a few clearer intervals will follow. Lows of 5 to 8 degrees."

The national forecaster says showers of rain will affect some areas of the country this weekend as temperatures start to fall overnight to lows of 3 degrees Celsius in some areas. The conditions could worsen on Sunday with strong gusts of wind forecast for coastal areas.
