James Nesbitt set to star in gripping new Netflix suspense drama from team behind The Stranger

James Nesbitt and Richard Armitage are both set to appear in a new Netflix mystery drama that promises to grip viewers with a terrifying tale. 


Stay Close is an eight-part adaptation of top US crime writer Harlan Coben’s New York Times bestselling novel of the same name. 


The team behind The Stranger and Safe are producing the new series, which will follow three characters whose dark secrets resurface, threatening to destroy their lives.

The Missing star James Nesbitt, 55, and The Hobbit star Richard Armitage, 49, and The Good Wife star Cush Jumbo, 35, have all been offered starring roles.  


The three leading actors play characters living ordinary and comfortable lives together in a house share. 


But a visit from an unwelcome guests threatens to ruin their lives and the lives of those around, as the past comes back to haunt them.   


James Nesbitt said: ‘I’m thrilled to be part of such a great production. The scripts drew me in from the get-go and I am looking forward to starting filming.’

With trademark thrills, gripping suspense, and a crime to solve, the show is set to follow the same formula that made The Stranger such a hit. 


That show came out in 2015, and once again starred Richard Armitage as well as Ab Fab star Jennifer Saunders.


It told the story of how a stranger’s arrival had a devastating impact on a man’s life, and the show received rave reviews. 

Stay Close is due to go into production in early 2021, and filming will take place in and around Manchester and the North West of England.
