Taylor Hawkins‘ memory will be honored on music’s biggest night!
The late Foo Fighters drummer passed away last week at the age of 50, just hours before the band was scheduled to perform at a Bogata music festival.
The band released a statement and canceled their performance. Fans gathered to pay tribute to Hawkins as the stage was turned into a vigil. According to CNN, “The screens on five stages of the festival projected the message ‘Taylor Hawkins para siempre,’ which translates to Taylor Hawkins forever.”
In the week following Hawkins’ passing, the Foo Fighters have canceled their remaining tour dates, and will not be performing at the Grammys on Sunday night.
However, the Grammys will still hold space for the late drummer during the ceremony.
Inside The Grammys Tribute
On Wednesday, the CBS Executive Vice President of Specials, Music, and Live Events, spoke to Variety per an article in People, and announced the Grammys will hold a tribute of some kind in Hawkins’ memory.
Jack Sussman shared, “We will honor his memory in some way. We want to figure out what is the right thing to do that is respectful to everyone involved. We’re patient. We’ll be planning right up to the very end.”
The band is also nominated for three Grammys.

In the week following his passing, a countless number of celebrities have paid tribute to Hawkins, who was also remembered for being a fiercely dedicated fan of music.
Eighties heartthrob and Twitter extraordinaire Richard Marx shared a screenshot of his last text exchange with Hawkins.
The pair bonded over their love of ’80s metal band Scorpions after Hawkins “Sent [Marx] a Scorpions he loved.”
Marx shared the text was only from a month ago.
Elton John and Liam Gallagher respectively performed tributes to Hawkins in concert. Miley Cyrus shared a tearful tribute on stage, dedicating a track from her latest album “Plastic Hearts” called “Angels Like You,” before performing the song.
Travis Barker shared the Foo Fighters drummer gave him, “So much hope.”
The members of the Foo Fighters have only commented on Hawkins’ death through statements, as of this writing. Dave Grohl wrote extensively about Hawkins and their bond in his memoir “The Storyteller: Tales of Life and Music.”
Hawkins had been open about discussing his past struggles with addiction.
In the early aughts, the drummer lived through a heroin overdose which put him in a coma.
Her later said, “I’m not here to preach about not doing drugs, because I loved doing drugs, but I just got out of control for awhile and it almost got me. I was heading down a road that was going to lead to even worse paths. Whether someone’s sober, or they like a glass of wine with dinner, or they want a bottle of Jägermeister before they go on stage, or they like smoking doobies all day long, everyone has their path, and I took it too far.”
The 64th annual Grammy Awards will air on Sunday, April 3rd, in Las Vegas.
