Jimmy Kimmel chokes back tears during emotional tribute to Bob Saget

Jimmy Kimmel broke down in tears as he paid an emotional tribute to Bob Saget in a pretaped monologue Monday night – calling the late actor and comedian “the sweetest man” who “always had a compliment.”

“Bob was the sweetest. He was the sweetest man,” Kimmel said on his show as he choked back tears. “I have so many wonderfully kind and supportive texts and emails and calls from Bob.

“He always had a compliment. He’d write sometimes just to tell me he loved me and I know he did that for many people… He had something funny to say about everything and nothing bad to say about anyone. Never,” the Emmy Award-winning talk show host said.

“He was so funny, and I’m not talking about ‘Full House’ or ‘America’s Funniest Home Videos’ or stand-up comedy or movies, I mean funny for real,” Kimmel continued.

“Like, when you walked into a party, you saw Bob and his wife, Kelly, in the corner, you go straight to them and stay for as long as you could. Because he had something funny to say about everything, and nothing bad to say about anyone. Never,” he said.

“If there were people he didn’t like, he kept it to himself. He was — unlike me, he was a good person,” he added.

Kimmel also revealed that when his son was in the hospital, Saget “checked in a lot.”

“He was very kind to everyone and he had no problem telling you that he loved you and what you meant to him,” he said.

The “Jimmy Kimmel Live” host also took time to recount the “Full House” star’s efforts to raise money in the fight against scleroderma, a rare autoimmune disease that claimed the life of one of Saget’s sisters, Gay.

After she was diagnosed, Saget joined the board of directors for the Scleroderma Research Foundation, which Kimmel urged people to donate to.

The host later pulled out a copy of an email he received from Saget, in which they discussed their children.

“One night soon let’s go out and have some meat and some good damn drinks and talk about how lucky we are that we have them,” he read from the message.

Saget was reportedly found dead in his Florida hotel room bed by a housekeeper after he missed his late checkout time.

The cleaner made the grim discovery when she entered his room at the Ritz-Carlton in Orlando at about 4 p.m. Sunday — an hour after the 65-year-old was due to check out, a source told People.

Saget’s official cause of death has yet to be determined, but investigators said they’d found “no signs of foul play or drug use in this case.”
