Trevor Noah Says We Need To ‘Counsel’ Not ‘Cancel’ Kanye West

It seems Trevor Noah is trying to clear up some of his comments regarding Kanye West.

On Tuesday night, “The Daily Show” host called out the “Donda” rapper’s “harassing” behavior towards his ex, Kim Kardashian. Ye didn’t appreciate his comments and called him a series of racial slurs in an Instagram post on Wednesday morning.

That post led to a 24-hour Instagram ban from their parent company, Meta. The Blast broke the story that Ye’s “online behavior” also led him to be banned from performing at the Grammy Awards later this year, which Noah is again hosting.

However, Noah took to Twitter on Sunday morning to say that they might have gotten it wrong.

Trevor Noah: ‘I Said Counsel Kanye Not Cancel Kanye’

Just before noon on Sunday, Noah took to Twitter to give his take on Kanye’s Grammy ban, which he will no doubt address in person on Monday’s “The Daily Show” episode.

“I said counsel Kanye not cancel Kanye,” Noah tweeted. However, some fans are standing with Noah on this one.

“He canceled himself, Trevor,” one fan wrote.

“It’s consequence, not cancel,” another wrote. “I choose not to spend my money supporting an abuser. I choose not to spend my money in states that support anti-abortion laws (Texas), I choose not to spend my money on companies that are doing business with Russia (Subway).”

“Counsel yes, but punishment for dangerous behavior isn’t being ‘canceled’. It’s accountability,” they continued. “Just like the right doesn’t get that they have equal freedom for hate speech as their opponents have to repel. Performing at the Grammys is not a fundamental right.”

“Exactly. Don’t try to make me feel guilty for having a negative reaction to your poor behavior, that’s an abusive move that my alcoholic father would’ve tried to pull,” another shared. “But more than that, I agree with Trevor Noah that Kanye needs counseling and treatment.”

On Tuesday night, the South African comedian expressed concern for Kim, saying, “over time, Kanye has become more and more belligerent in how he tries to get Kim back.” He brought up the recent “Eazy” music video, where Kanye kidnaps, decapitates, and buries a caricature Claymation version of Pete Davidson.

Noah commented on the “escalating” situation, saying, “There’s an element of a woman saying to her ex, ‘Hey, please leave me alone.’ It touches on something that is more sensitive and more serious than people would like to admit,” Noah said. “I see a woman who wants to live her life without being harassed by an ex-boyfriend or an ex-husband or an ex-anything.”

“You may not feel sorry for Kim because she’s rich and famous,” he continued. “But what she’s going through is terrifying to watch. And it shines a spotlight on what so many women go through when they choose to leave [toxic relationships].”

“What we’re seeing here is one of the most powerful, one of the richest women in the world unable to get her ex to stop texting her, to stop chasing after her, to stop harassing her,” he added.
