“I have a lot of really fun memories here,” she said per Insider. “I have a lot of really hard memories here, but I have grown a lot at Disney. I fell in love for the first time at Disney World. I realized I was gay at Disney World. I went through stages of heartbreak at Disney World.”

In a viral TikTok video in 2021, Siwa announced her sexuality, sharing with her fans that she identified as queer. She expressed her identity by lip-syncing to Lady Gaga’s empowering song “Born This Way” while wearing a rainbow bow, a clear symbol of her pride. Not long after, the “It’s Time to Celebrate” hitmaker opened up about her first romantic relationship with Kylie Prew. The two had an on-and-off relationship until they eventually called it quits last year.

Siwa recalled when she realized her sexuality, saying it happened during a 14-day stay at Disney World with a close female friend. “I was here for 14 days with a girl that was my really good friend, and I realize, ‘Oh, I like her,” she recalled. “And having all those feelings while just being in the most magical place in the world and the happiest place on Earth was so cool. We’re not together anymore, but we did have some really fun, happy memories here.”

After her split from Prew, Siwa started dating TikTok sensation Avery Cyrus in September 2021. However, their relationship only lasted until December of the same year.

In a 2021 Pride cover interview, Siwa told EW she had come out to her family and close friends long before making her sexuality public. According to Siwa, her fans missed several hints about her sexuality throughout her career. She pointed out that she regularly wore a rainbow on top of her head and would seek out any rainbow-colored clothing she could find.

“I mean, I wore a rainbow on the top of my head almost every day of my life,” she said. “And any time I could have anything rainbow, I would get rainbow. June’s my favorite month to shop because of all the Pride clothes.”

In recent times, Siwa has emerged as a passionate advocate for LGBTQIA+ rights, going as far as standing up against “Full House” actress Candace Cameron Bure for making controversial statements about her new holiday network. Bure had told the Wall Street Journal that her new tenure at the Great American Family channel would prioritize “traditional marriage” over LGBTQ love stories in its programming.

“I think that the Great American Family will keep traditional marriage at the core,” she said after being asked if same-sex couples would appear as leads in GAF’s upcoming TV film projects.

Siwa had already clashed with Bure in July when she made a social media video accusing the actress of being the rudest celebrity she had ever encountered.
