Jon Hamm agreed to be in ‘Bridesmaids’ without a deal as ‘favor’ to Kristen Wiig

It’s been over 11 years since we saw the hilarious side of Jon Hamm in “Bridesmaids” — proving he’s got way more in his acting toolbox than just Don Draper-esque roles.

The Emmy award-winning actor bagged a pretty notable role in the hit 2011 film. But to the surprise of many, Hamm revealed he actually didn’t get anything for starring in the movie.

The film sees Hamm’s character Ted, who is Kristen Wiig’s character Annie Walker’s fling and “friend with benefits.”

Hamm is the playboy type in the film, as Annie always longs for a more serious connection between the two. This is not reciprocated by Ted, who is also interested in having sexual relations with Annie.

But while Hamm’s supporting role in the film ended up being one of the film’s most loved cameos, the actor recently revealed that he agreed to appear in the film without seeing the script or signing a deal.

“I did that movie before there was a part, before there was a script, I said ‘yes’ to it. And [my] agents went, ‘Oh, well, shit. How do we, you know, ask for money?’ And I was like, ‘Don’t worry about it. It just, let me let go have fun with friends,’” Hamm said on SiriusXM’s “Pop Culture Spotlight with Jessica Shaw.”

The “Mad Men” star said he couldn’t say no to Wiig after they struck up a friendship during his “SNL” hosting stint in 2010.

“We were in a couple sketches together and got along like a house on fire, and she said, ‘Will you please be in my movie? Please be in my movie.’ You know, nobody knew it was gonna be the global success that it was. But I knew it would be funny. And especially with that cast, I was like, ‘Sure, of course. Are you kidding me? Thank you for asking. Of course I’ll do that.’”

The film sees Wiig star as a baker trying to plan a wedding for her best friend, Lillian (played by fellow “Saturday Night Live” alum Maya Rudolph). Wiig’s character is in fierce competition with Lillian’s wealthy, newer pal Helen (Rose Byrne).

The hit film also stars comedic talents Melissa McCarthy, Rebel Wilson, Chris O’Dowd, Wendi McLendon-Covey, and Ellie Kemper.

“Mostly I drive [my agents] crazy because I say yes to everything, you know? I’m always showing up for people’s podcasts or what have you,” Hamm continued. “But that’s what I like doing. I like engaging with the people that I work with and I’ve had some tremendous, fun experiences doing that.

“And things like that turn into other things. And, you know, those are the kinds of things you can’t measure.”
