Last month, showrunners at NBC Universal Television announced that Flula Borg (Pieter Krämer), who starred as the co-leader of the Bellas’ adversaries Das Sound Machine, in “Pitch Perfect 2” had officially been added to the cast of their “Pitch Perfect” spinoff.

The team had earlier revealed that Adam Devine (aka Bumper Allen) would also feature in the series in a leading role. With the cast of the series already star-packed, the media giants have added: “Modern Family” actor Sarah Hyland, Jameela Jamil from “The Good Place,” and Lera Abova (Anna) to complete the rest of the crew.

NBC Universal Television greenlighted the ‘Pitch Perfect” series for their streaming service Peacock. Additionally, the show would have Elizabeth Banks as an executive producer following her stint as a director and actor in the second feature.

The program will follow Devine’s Bumper Allen as he heads to Germany after one of his songs gets popular to restart his career in Berlin some years after audiences first saw him in the movies. Heidi, Piter and Bumper’s cheerful but also bizarre American assistant, will be portrayed by Hyland. While serving on Bumper’s crew during the day, she secretly wishes to be a singer-songwriter and doubles up as an original song performer in a Berlin cabaret.

Piter’s sister, Abova, is a well-known Berlin DJ and music producer. As DJ Das Boot, she plays in clubs throughout the city. Additionally, Piter’s ex-girlfriend and Bumper’s most significant competition at the German Unity Day event is Gisela, a boisterous and showy up-and-coming German music sensation. She’ll go to any length to beat him to the top.

Abova made her acting debut alongside Sasha Luss, Cillian Murphy, and Helen Mirren in Luc Besson’s suspense drama “Anna.” She has a burgeoning modeling career and has starred in adverts for Hugo Boss, Joseph, Acne, and Sportmax and appearances on the covers of international fashion publications.

Jamil is best known for her four seasons feature as Tahani on “The Good Place,” co-starring with Ted Danson and Kristen Bell. She is also the host of TBS’s game program The Misery Index and a judge on HBO’s Legendary, a voguing/ballroom competition show.

The Peacock program, announced in September 2021, will debut for a full season at an unspecified date. According to a showrunner at Universal, greenlighting the series is one of the media giants’ many moves to expand their content.

“Our upcoming Pitch Perfect series is another example of the unmatched synergy NBCUniversal can expand upon with our wide-ranging library of IP,” announced Susan Rovner, chairman of entertainment content for NBCUniversal Television and Streaming.

“When we saw the opportunity to create a series for Pitch Perfect with [executive producers] Elizabeth Banks, Max Handelman, and Paul Brooks plus more earworm classics for super fans to enjoy, we jumped at it.

“And to top it off, we are so fortunate that Adam Devine is headlining the series and bringing fans the quirky, laugh-out-loud sensibility they loved in the film franchise.”

While critical stars like Devine are making a comeback in the series, Anna Kendrick and Brittany Snow will not reprise their roles after making their mark in the film franchise.

The duo had starred in the “Pitch Perfect” franchise, with the first installment hitting theaters in 2012. The films also featured Rebel Wilson and Skylar Astin and were inspired by Mickey Rapkin’s novel of the same name. “Pitch Perfect” trilogy has made approximately $600 million at the global box office.

In addition to the “Pitch Perfect” series, NBCUniversal has already resurrected films like Field of Dreams and Ted for new episodes on their Peacock streaming service.
