Kathy Griffin declares she’s cancer-free after undergoing lung surgery

Kathy Griffin is cancer-free.

The comedian shared the exciting news while appearing on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” on Tuesday, telling the host that after undergoing surgery to remove half her lung she’s officially in remission.

“I’m cancer-free,” Griffin stated. “I don’t know why, I had a tumor, right? And I’ve never smoked, and it was in there for 10 years. So get this, they took it out and found it in another scan.”

The “My Life on the D-List” star explained the procedure to remove part of her lung, sharing that her doctor told her it would look like a “used condom.”

“And then he goes, ‘You can use that,'” he said of his simile. “And I just did – and insurance covered it.”

Griffin, 61, said that her vocal cords are still recovering so her voice has changed.

“It will heal, but I’m sort of enjoying it,” Griffin said. “I’m a good two octaves higher, I think … it’s higher than Mariah Carey.”

Griffin revealed in early August that she was diagnosed with lung cancer and underwent surgery days after she shared her health news and said it “went well” but it turned out to be more difficult than she realized.

“To be honest, this cancer surgery was a little more than I had anticipated. Tonight will be my first night without any narcotic pain killers. Hello Tylenol, my new best friend!” she wrote on Instagram. “The last time I was in a hospital was in June 2020 when I tried to take my own life and overdosed on prescription pills.”

Stronger than ever, the former “Fashion Police” co-host said she knows she can get through her struggles without the help of painkillers.

“With over a year clean and drug free, I now know I can do this and anything I want without those devil pills,” she continued. “Y’know what? I fear drugs and addiction more than I fear cancer. So, I think I’ll be ok.”
