Kelly Ripa quit drinking when Ryan Seacrest joined ‘Live’

Kelly Ripa has revealed that she quit drinking when Ryan Seacrest came aboard “Live with Kelly and Ryan” after Michael Strahan’s 2016 exit.

“I started the show and she quit drinking,” Seacrest said on Monday’s episode (via E! News) during a segment on America’s alcohol habits. “What does that tell you? I don’t know … It that good or bad?”

Ripa, discussing studies that Americans purchased less wine overall in 2019 — the first drop in 25 years, apparently — joked that “I have influenced the market … I’m not saying I’ve driven people out. I’m saying I stopped buying wine and there’s a 25 percent dip.”

Ripa didn’t specifically reveal why or when she stopped drinking during the episode.

Though Ripa, 49, has made a habit of roasting Seacrest, 45, at awards shows, the pair’s on-camera chemistry is the result of a close real-life friendship: “It feels like Ryan has always been here because he’s been such a big part of my life off-camera for the past 15 years,” she told E! News in 2019.

Ripa has admitted to feeling blindsided by Strahan’s exit from the show after he was asked to join “Good Morning America” in May 2016. Almost a year ago, he admitted the two no longer speak over the incident. After a series of guest hosts, Seacrest joined the show full-time in 2017.
