Kiefer Sutherland Is Open To Giving His Role As Jack Bauer In ’24’ Another Go

Kiefer Sutherland is looking forward to a “24” comeback!

The actor recently sparked hope for the show’s fans after he announced that he was open to returning to the award-winning series if it ever gets a reboot. Sutherland starred in the beloved Fox drama as the resourceful CTU agent Jack Bauer from 2001 to 2010 when it ended.

He also reprised the character for the limited series, “24: Live Another Day” and has headlined other notable thrillers, including “Designated Survivor” since then.

Even though Sutherland would return to television in “Rabbit Hole,” a Paramount+ thriller that will premiere on March 26, he still has a flame burning for “24.” And his love for the series is not hard to understand, as the performance earned the British-Canadian actor an Emmy and six other nominations.

Explaining how committed he is to relive that time of his life, the “Stand by Me” star stated that it’s the “one thing” he would “never say no to” if it was to return. The “Forsaken” lead detailed to ET:

“When we finished season 8, I said we were done, and yet we did a season 9. There’s a lot of elements that would have to come together to make that happen, but I certainly would not be the reason why it didn’t”

The “A Few Good Men” star added that wearing Jack Bauer’s hat was “one of the greatest experiences” of his career. He also expressed his love for the character and an appreciation for “the fans that liked it.”

Sutherland referred to filming the long-running series as “the best time of my life” in a separate interview, emphasizing that he was in his early 30s then. Hence, he was “physically capable” and “a little smarter.”

Now in his 50s, the VGX Awards winner has no problem admitting that aspect of his acting history was an “incredibly special” one that he “would like to see it continue on.” As for “Rabbit Hole,” the 56-year-old would be portraying the character of John Weir, a corporate espionage professional, who is framed for murder by powerful forces.

Thanks to the exciting “mixture” of surprise and collaboration regarding the show’s plot twists, he was moved to take on the role. The Screen Actors Guild Awards winner gushed:

“When you see writers who are as talented as they [John Requa and Glenn Ficarra] are, apply what we discussed as an idea, and how that idea actually comes to fruition — yeah, I have to be honest, there were a couple [of] moments I was really surprised by the way that idea was delivered and excited by.”

Sutherland further disclosed that fans do not have to worry about the realistic angle of scenes in the series, clarifying, “This manipulation of information of technology and how to take your personal information and manipulate that and use it against you is a very frightening scenario, but it’s also a reality that, on some level, we’re going to have to deal with as a society.”

The Golden Globe Awards Winner Will Act Alongside Talented Hollywood Stars In The Upcoming Series

Last month, The Blast shed more light on “Rabbit Hole” after its official trailer was released online. Per the report, the thriller has an impressive cast that includes “Game of Thrones” star Charles Dance, Meta Golding, Enid Graham, Walt Klink, Ishan Dave, Jason Butler Harner, and Rob Yang acting opposite Sutherland.

The “Monsters vs. Aliens” voice artist also serves as an executive producer for the show alongside show creators Requa and Ficarra, who directed its premiere episode. Hunt Baldwin, Charlie Gogolak, and Suzan Bymel would join them.

The Paramount+ show follows the techno and political thriller-type cloth that shows like “Person of Interest” and “24” are known for. Even though he has experience in corporate espionage, Sutherland’s character will be seen operating in unfamiliar territory, where he has no idea who to trust.

Besides showing off his skills in front of – and behind — the camera, the “Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me” actor also has a successful career as a musician. His most recent project, a studio album called “Bloor Street,” was released last year.
