Kourtney Kardashian Had A ‘Nervous Breakdown’ After $1M Engagement Ring Broke

Kourtney Kardashian recently opened up about a nerve-shattering experience during the most recent episode of Hulu’s “The Kardashians.”

The eldest sister of the clan recalled the time when she broke her headline-making engagement ring from fiancé Travis Barker and the emotional impact it had on her.

Kourtney Kardashian ‘Hysterically Cried’ After Breaking Her Engagement Ring

During last night’s episode of the reality show, Kourtney revealed that she stepped on her engagement ring and it broke. It happened that momager Kris Jenner noticed she was without the sparkler and asked what happened.

In response, Kourtney told her mom the ring was getting fixed and then elaborated on the story.

“I was sitting on my floor folding sweatshirts. I took the ring off and I put it next to me on the floor, like thinking it would be safe right next to me,” Kourtney recalled.

But the reverse was the case as the POOSH founder revealed that she stepped on the precious jewelry when she tried to get something above in her closet.

“…when I stepped down, I stepped on the ring. I was hysterically crying in my closet for hours, and then I called Travis. I was like, ‘I did something really, really bad,” a devastated Kourtney shared.

The mother-of-three described the incident as “probably one of the worst things I’ve ever done in my whole life” while chatting with her mom.

She explained that the incident caused her to have a “nervous breakdown” as she thought to herself, “this is the most beautiful thing that I’ve ever had in my life, and how could I have done that?”

Luckily, Kourtney’s panic was met with Barker’s level-headedness as the soon-to-be bride praised her man saying, he “handled it the best.”

About Kourtney’s $1 Million Engagement Ring

Barker popped the big question to Kourtney in October 2021 after about a year of dating. The Blink-182 drummer got down on one knee at sunset on a beach in Montecito, California.

Barker spared no expense as the lovebirds were surrounded by an elaborate heart-shaped decoration of rose stems and candles. The jaw-dropping ring was said to cost a whopping $1 million and was designed by celebrity jeweler Lorraine Schwartz.

The giant oval diamond ring was designed with so much intention according to Schwartz. While speaking to People Magazine, the jeweler who is a longtime designer for the Kardashian-Jenner clan — she designed two of Kim Kardashian’s engagement rings — said she worked closely with Barker to make it come to life.

“I worked on it with Travis and he was a really big part of it,” Schwartz explained. “He was really hands-on in the whole making of it. It’s gorgeous and they’re happy.”

A source close to the couple explained that given it was Kourtney’s first engagement, Barker knew he had to go all out. Her family also had a similar sentiment as they were all present for the breathtaking proposal that took place at the beachside.

Kourtney’s Kids Were Excluded From The Proposal

During last week’s episode of “The Kardashians” fans got to see how Kourtney and Barker’s engagement and proposal played out.

While it was indeed a family affair with all four of Kourtney’s sisters including mom Kris present, the episode revealed that none of Kourtney’s kids Penelope, Mason, and Reign were present for the big event.

At momager Kris’ behest, she requested that the kids not attend because she believed it would complicate things, given that they were spending the weekend with their father Scott Disick.

Apparently, the family didn’t want Disick to know about Kourtney’s engagement just yet. However, after the proposal went well and Kourtney tried to share the good news with her kids, she was met with anger.

As The Blast reported, she called her daughter Penelope first and the nine-year-old began sobbing on the phone before urging her mom to “hang up!”

Next was the youngest Reign who said the news was “not interesting” while mason allowed her calls to go to voicemail.

While addressing the disappointing feedback from her kids, Kourtney said in a confessional, “I do wish that my kids were here. I think it would have made them feel more included in the decision, kind of, and part of the surprise.”

She continued, “I know that my mom made that decision, and it probably wasn’t her best.”
