Liev Schreiber Reacts To Scarlett Johansson’s Claim He Spat On Her

Sometimes, we have little incidents when we’re talking or expressing ourselves vocally, maybe a bit of spit or drool; it is common among people. And since, of course, celebrities are ordinary people, they are also vulnerable to these incidents.

Unfortunately, one celebrity who this happened to, was famous actor Liev Schreiber, and the unfortunate victim was Scarlett Johansson. Ordinarily, fans would never hear about this sort of minor incident, but the actress wasn’t afraid to call him out for dropping what she called an “asteroid of a loogie” on her.

Johansson made it clear that the incident wasn’t a big deal, but Schreiber took her announcement of the incident quite differently. He made it clear that she didn’t need to talk about it and took the opportunity to clear the air and share his side of what really happened. Here is all we know about the incident.

Schreiber Accidentally Spat On Johansson

Before Johansson became the A-list actress fans know her today, she tried Broadway. Her first stage play was the 2011 play “A View From The Bridge” by Arthur miller. This was where she first met and acted with Schreiber. During their performance of this play, it was then the spitting incident occurred.

According to Female First, Johansson said, “We’re really close to one another and we have these scenes where he’s getting really upset and there’s a lot of rage. A couple of weeks ago we were doing this scene. He’s right here (in my face) and he’s screaming at me and all of a sudden – it happened almost in slow motion – I saw it.”

She further described the actual spitting as “These pearls of spittle. And then this one asteroid of a loogie (landed on my forehead) made that flicking sound.”

Johansson Didn’t Let It Affect Her Performance

Even at that time, Johansson was already a professional actress who understood what it took to be a performer and let the show go on. So, she didn’t allow the spit to distract her from her performance and continued like nothing had happened, with the Schreiber’s saliva on her face.

She said, “Any normal person would wipe it away but I felt the show must go on. He saw it, I saw it. It was awful.” And then, after the performance, she cleaned off the spittle. However, Schreiber had a slightly different version of the spitting incident to tell and a not very pleased reaction to Johansson’s statements.

Schreiber’s Reaction To The Accusation

The Tony Award winner admitted that he did indeed spit on Johansson’s face but revealed it wasn’t as exaggerated as the actress had made it seem. He jokingly told MTV News, “I’m kind of pissed off to be honest. First of all what really happened is sometimes in the course of doing an Arthur Miller play full speed every night your mouth tends to lubricate itself.”

He clarified the size and nature of the spit and said, “I can assure you it was nothing more than spittle. Apparently, she said I hocked like an asteroid-sized loogie onto her forehead which is just not true.”

He also expressed that he didn’t like that Johansson had revealed the incident to the public and hinted that he knew some things about the actress that she wouldn’t want to be exposed to.

He said, “If I went around on national television advertising the things she does on stage and in the privacy of her dressing room she wouldn’t be so happy about it. So I think she ought to think twice before she lays into me.”

Schreiber Was Impressed With Johansson’s Acting

Schreiber is what many stage play fans consider a veteran in the industry. He is very talented and revered for his excellent performances. It was a big compliment for someone who accomplished to express how impressed he was with Johansson during the time they worked together.

In an interview with Theater Talk, he said, “She has tremendous composure and calm. I was flipping out at points in this rehearsal, and she was the one who I was looking to for calm. And confidence. She has that in spades.”

He also shared his experience with the “Marriage Story” actress that really moved him. He said, “We were doing an interview very early on in rehearsals, and a journalist said to her, ‘What about, or what if you get really bad reviews?'”

He reported that Johansson replied, “Well, I guess I’ll be bummed out. But I think the thing that would hurt me most of all was that they wouldn’t let me do it again.” Schreiber then said that this was the moment he realized that they were dealing with a real actress.
