Mary Cosby’s husband addresses controversial marriage on ‘RHOSLC’ reunion

Mary Cosby’s husband is finally speaking up about their unconventional marriage.

Robert Sr. appeared in the hot seat — albeit virtually, due to pandemic-related travel concerns — at the “Real Housewives of Salt Lake City” reunion on Wednesday night, sitting down with the women over a video call.

When host Andy Cohen asked him to clear up any misconceptions about his marriage to Cosby, he began by saying that “all of that grandfather junk” was “stupid” and that he was hesitant to support his wife when Cosby told him that she wanted to join the show.

He laughed, “I knew everything that’s happening right now was going to happen.”

At that point, Cosby told her husband to try and remain positive as she made up with Jen Shah, who called Cosby a “grandpa f—ker” during the prohibition party earlier in the season.

“I love you too but that doesn’t mean I can’t voice my opinion,” Robert Sr. responded.

“I don’t know what they’re thinking — that we got married just for the money? [That] everything is money, money, money? And it’s not like that,” he added, explaining, “I was 22 years old when I married Mama. Whose granddaddy was I? I wasn’t even anybody’s daddy yet … I don’t like [Shah’s pejorative] all. It’s very offensive for someone to say. That’s hurtful, but I’m used to it.”

He then defended Cosby, calling her a “great mother” to their son, Robert Jr., and a great wife” while also praising their 22-year marriage. Cosby began to tear up while he also acknowledged that they were equals at their church, Salt Lake City’s Faith Temple Pentecostal Church.

Earlier in the reunion, Cosby admitted that there were “no receipts” that her late grandmother wanted Cosby to marry her step-grandfather Robert Sr. when she died.

“So basically, Robert Sr. was 20 years younger than my grandmother,” she explained. “My grandmother felt like she robbed his youth and so she said, ‘If something ever happens, I want you to marry one of my girls because I know they’ll be loyal to you and treat you good like you treated me.’”
