Mindy Kaling says B.J. Novak paternity rumors don’t ‘bother’ her

Mindy Kaling isn’t fazed by rumors that her ex-boyfriend B.J. Novak is the father of her two children.

“It doesn’t bother me,” the “Mindy Project” alum, 43, said in a Marie Claire interview published Tuesday.

“He’s the godparent to both my kids — and they have such a great relationship — and so far [the speculation hasn’t] affected my happiness at all, it hasn’t affected my kids or BJ,” she explained.

“If that’s what is going to be titillating to people, I’ll take it.”

The actress welcomed daughter Katherine, 4, and son Spencer, 1, in 2017 and 2020, respectively.

Kaling, who dated Novak, 43, on and off from 2004 to 2007, does not plan on speaking about her kids’ conception until the little ones know the details themselves.

“I want them to be old enough to talk to me about it and [tell me] how they want me to talk about it,” the Emmy nominee told the magazine.

“I’m the only parent my kids have,” she continued. “I think I err on the side of super cautious so that there [are] less things that they can potentially be mad at me about down the line.”

As for talking to them about her fame, Kaling has yet to broach the topic.

“My hope is that [Katherine] will be 12 or 13 and kids will be talking about [‘The Office’] at school, and then she’ll want to watch it and I can show it to her,” the Tony winner said.

“This is reminding me that I should probably have some kind of a conversation memorized to talk to her about [it],” she added, joking that she has been “getting by” without making conscious parenting decisions.

Kaling went on to encourage young women to freeze their eggs.

“I wish every 19-year-old girl would come home from college and that the gift — instead of buying them jewelry or a vacation or whatever — is that their parents would take them to freeze their eggs,” she said. “They could do that once and have all these eggs for them, for their futures.”

The “Never Have I Ever” creator gushed to People in 2018 about the benefits of having kids “a little bit later” in her career.

“I can fit my daughter into my job,” she said at the time. “It’s a luxury most American women don’t have.

“I can be like, ‘Hey, I want a little area that I can have my daughter play because I want to check up on her at work.’ That is probably the biggest perk of my life.”
