You never know when life is going to shock you with heartbreaking news. You have to move forward, but it’s never easy. Rachel Perman knows this lesson better than most. Battling cancer, she didn’t know if she would live to see her kids grow up to the age of five years old. However, when she beat cancer, she knew she had to celebrate the birthdays in a special way. She planned a photoshoot that quickly went viral on social media. Grab the tissues!
Shortly after giving birth to her twins, Perman was diagnosed with cancer. She commented, “I had fears if I would even get to see their fifth birthday.” She was alive to see her older daughter’s, Mikayla, fifth birthday, and Perman “hated not knowing if I would get the same time with them (her twins) that I got with her.” The mother of three was lucky when she beat cancer and that she reached her milestone.
To celebrate, she chose to arrange magical photoshoots for her children’s birthdays (shared during the same week). While each photoshoot looked wonderful, her son’s photoshoot went viral for a very heartwarming reason. It was a photoshoot unlike anything before.
Obsessed With ‘Up’
Ever since they were babies, Perman’s twins (Elijah and Emilee) had very different personalities. Emilee loved princesses and “girly” accessories, so a unicorn photoshoot was the perfect fit for her. On the other hand, Elijah has always been obsessed with the 2009 Pixar film, Up. Perman commented, “It’s the only thing he draws and colors (the house with balloons) and the only books he wants to get at the library, and the only toy he wanted when we were in Disney World last year. He loves Up!”
So, Perman thought it would be creative to organize an entire photoshoot featuring Elijah’s favorite movie. She even invited Elijah’s great-grandparents to participate in the photoshoot, resembling Carl and Ellie in the famous film. Perman commented, “My grandparents were thrilled to participate and loved that I asked them. Maybe this photoshoot will be an inspiration for them to finally catch up and watch it with their adorable great-grandson!”
As for Elijah, he dressed up as Russell, the adorable Boy Scout in the film. Perman shared that the photoshoot was a dream come true for Elijah. He’ll have to recreate it for his high school senior pictures. Hopefully, Perman will remember this photoshoot by then.
Perman, a professional photographer, shared the adorable photoshoot on Facebook, both on her personal and professional pages. The posts reached a combined total of 4,300 likes and 672 comments. People were head-over-heels in love with the photoshoot, sharing their comments on how emotional they felt after viewing the pictures.
For example, Randi Dombecke commented, “Brought tears of joy to my eyes. You are blessed and prayers for your never-ending blessings.” In addition, Maria Behnam-Terneus said, “Oh my gosh, an overload of cuteness and emotion. Love these!” Kristy Reese Keener-Jenkins commented, “Thank you so very much for sharing your photos and more importantly your story! You are an inspiration to me and many others.”
Finally, Gloria Jean reflected, “How beautiful this is, tears for these heartwarming pictures. These children have an amazing mother and such loving great-grandparents. You are all so very blessed. Thank you for sharing (my husband even wiped a tear). My deepest prayers for you all.”
Perman was happy that her photos and story inspired others. She didn’t anticipate the viral success, but she’s using it to remind her children of the happiness they constantly bring others. She said, “It’s been fun to see how many people are touched by it! I keep telling the kids, ‘You are good at bringing happiness to us, now you are making the nation happy, too!’”
