ABBA Marks 50 Years Since Winning Eurovision With Rare Joint Statement

For the 50th anniversary of their Eurovision victory, ABBA has posted a rare joint statement for their fans. They are also celebrating the anniversary with a "piano moment" and a limited edition album box set.

Since the win, ABBA has been very successful with songs like "Dancing Queen," inspiring films, and creating their recent project, ABBA Voyage.

In their appreciation message, they spoke about how their reality has surpassed their dreams and thanked fans for their loyalty through the years.

As they celebrate the 50th anniversary of their Eurovision Song Contest Victory, ABBA has released a rare joint statement for their fans.

The 70s pop group is one of the most famous and successful winners of the song competition after winning in April 1974 for their song "Waterloo."

The group consisted of Bjorn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson, Agnetha Faltskog, and Anni-Frid Lyngstad. In their joint statement, they expressed gratitude to fans and spoke about how far they've come in the 50 years. The former group is also marking the anniversary by hosting a "piano moment" across multiple countries in Europe.

According to the DailyMail, several pianos across the continent will play a pre-recorded piece by Benny simultaneously to simulate a live performance. This includes London, Warsaw, Berlin, and Stockholm. They've also reissued a limited edition box set of the "Waterloo" album, with songs like "Honey Honey" and "My Mama Said."

The joint statement by ABBA included a picture of the group winning the award back in 1974.

The accompanying message read, "It's slightly dizzying and deeply humbling to think that millions of you who saw us for the first time in the Eurovision final 1974 have passed our music on not only to one generation, but to several."

They spoke about how there's prime evidence of their impact in the Abba Voyage in London, which is one of the reasons they're celebrating the 50th anniversary, as they know that their songs "still resonate."

The message further reads, "It's difficult to comprehend that 50 years have gone by since the four of us waited backstage for the verdicts of all the juries around Europe at the Dome in Brighton. So what were our dreams during those suspenseful moments or in the chaos in the aftermath of the victory we had secured with the smallest margin in Eurovision history? Four different dreams, no doubt, but whatever they were, however grand, reality has surpassed them, that's for sure."

Since their Eurovision win, ABBA has released many hits, like "Dancing Queen," "Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!" and "Super Trouper."

The group's catalog of hits has inspired successful films like "Mamma Mia!" and "Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again," as well as a theatre show and their recent virtual concert, ABBA Voyage.

The ABBA voyage hologram show has sold over a million tickets and reportedly earned the British economy over £300 million [$380 million].

Although the group separated in 1982, fans can experience ABBA in their 1970s and 1980s era in a concert scene through the virtual experience.

In their message, ABBA further thanked fans for their support since their win and despite their split.

The group's message continued, "Many of you were there from the very start and have followed us ever since – for over half a century! Music you discover and learn to love when you grow up or even later in life has a way of staying with you forever."

ABBA further wrote that they're happy to share the experience with their fans and know "that our music has become a constant in" their lives.

"Throughout the years, we have been blessed with the outpouring of love from you, our fans. We feel it, and we want to know that hardly a day goes by when we're not reminded of it," ABBA noted.

They concluded their statement: "To say thank you for what you're giving us without sounding trivial is not easy and this is not a moment of triviality. It is a happy and, at the same time, solemn moment and we can only hope that you understand how deeply grateful we are for a long, successful career and for your steadfast loyalty and support through the years. Thank you!"

Fans of the group happily reciprocated their kind words by posting comments in tribute to ABBA's timeless music.

"I read this and cried! Thank you Abba for changing a little boys life 50 years ago," one emotional stated.

Another fan recalled watching the group on Eurovision, saying: "I remember being at my Grandma and Grandad's house sitting with them [to] watch Eurovision and saying to Grandad' they will win this' and still love their music today."

"Thank you for the songs that you and we still sing. Thank you for the music. Congratulations on the 50 years of the Eurovision success. Much love to you all," a third person shared.
