The weekend is now.

The movies are plentiful.

Here's the best – or at least the most intriguing – options available on the box this evening (Friday, 10 September)...

Behind Enemy Lines – Film4 – 6.55pm

Owen Wilson is behind enemy lines.

Armageddon – ITV4 – 9pm

Bruce Willis leads a crack team of drillers in space. Aerosmith provide the tunes.

Logan – E4 – 9pm

Hugh Jackman finally gets the solo Wolverine film that he and the fans wanted.

Logan finds, er, Logan, down on his luck and struggling to take care of a debilitated Professor X before the 'one last job' cliché comes calling. From there it gets very violent and emotional indeed.

Hell or High Water – Film4 – 9pm

In our chief pick for this evening, Chris Pine and Ben Foster play a pair of bank robbers that specialise in small-town bank robberies. Pine wants to slow down. Foster is having none of it. Grizzled lawman Jeff Bridges is closing in.

An absolutely spectacular slow-burn modern western. If you haven't seen it, now's the time.

The Lost Boys – TCM – 9pm

In case you missed it during the week.

Rooster Cogburn – TG4 – 9.05pm

John Wayne does his hard-drinking western thing.

The Perfect Storm – RTÉ 2 – 10pm

George Clooney and Mark Wahlberg battle the high seas in this fact-based drama that sees a group of fisherman fight for survival against all odds.

2 Guns – Virgin Media One – 10pm

If you'd prefer a cockier, gun-toting Mark Wahlberg on another channel at the exact same time, he does just that here alongside the always engaging Denzel Washington.

Street Kings – TCM – 11.05pm

David Ayer does his 'gritty Los Angeles crime drama' thing once more with Keanu Reeves, Chris Evans, Forest Whitaker and plenty of other recognisable faces on board for this diet Training Day riff.

Thunderbolt and Lightfoot – Film4 – 11.05pm

Clint Eastwood and Jeff Bridges plan a bank heist.

Jagged Edge – RTÉ One – 11.25pm

Jeff Bridges, who seems to be curating tonight's line-up, is arrested for the murder of his wife but swears he didn't do it. Glenn Close takes the case, only to fall in love with her client. A murky trial and a deeper mystery ensues.

Moonlight – Channel 4 – 12.35am

Outstanding Oscar-winning drama in which the life of one man is told from three different perspectives of his life. An extremely moving film with exceptional performances. Make time for it.

The Big Short – TCM – 1.20am

Attractive movie stars and their celebrity friends explain the financial crash.

Project Almanac – Film4 – 1.25am

If you're still awake and watching TV at 1.25am it really should be Moonlight but here's a generic sci-fi effort if you'd prefer that instead.
