‘Barbie’ Producer LuckyChap Rolls Dice On ‘Monopoly’ With Lionsgate & Hasbro – CinemaCon

Lionsgate and Hasbro have entered into a deal with Barbie producer LuckyChap to shepherd development and produce Monopoly, a feature based on the classic board game. The project is currently in development and Hasbro Entertainment will also produce. The news landed during Lionsgate’s presentation at CinemaCon this morning in Las Vegas.

Lionsgate extended its development rights to the game with its purchase of eOne, which was completed in December 2023. With 99% global awareness, Monopoly is the world’s most popular board game brand and is available in more than 100 countries. It has sold nearly half a billion copies going back to 1935.

LuckyChap, the award-winning production company headed by Margot Robbie, Tom Ackerley and Josey McNamara, said in a statement today, “Monopoly is a top property – pun fully intended. LuckyChap most recently produced the worldwide phenomenon Barbie, as well as Emerald Fennell’s Saltburn and the upcoming release My Old Ass, a hit at Sundance starring Aubrey Plaza and Maisy Stella.
