He recently teased fans that the film would make audiences’ heads spin, and he praised the work of director Sam Raimi on the film. Read on to find out what he said about the film and Raimi.

Cumberbatch Reprised His Role As Doctor Strange

Cumberbatch returned as Doctor Strange, the master of the mystic arts alongside other Marvel characters from the first “Doctor Strange” film and other Marvel films. These characters include Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff, Benedict Wong as Wong, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Mordo, and Rachel McAdams as Christina Palmer.

Two new Marvel characters also debut in the film, including Xochitl Gomez as America Chavez and Patrick Stewart as Professor Charles Xavier. Fans will likely remember Professor Charles Xavier’s role on the recently concluded X-Men franchise.

According to what fans know so far about the film, “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” picks up a while after the events of “Spider-Man: No Way Home” and WandaVision. In the film, Stephen Strange faces the consequences of his meddling with the multiverse.

Due to his actions, he is confronted by alternate dimension variants of himself, such as Strange Supreme and Defender Strange, and a mysterious new villain that he cannot defeat by himself. The film was directed by Raimi and used a script written by Michael Waldron, the creator of Loki.

Cumberbatch Praised Raimi And His Signature Style

Shortly after the new trailer for “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” premiered, Cumberbatch had an interview with Empire to discuss the film. He shared that Raimi brought his signature style to the movie and was excited for fans to finally watch the movie.

He said, “Once it became Sam, it was always about making it a Sam Raimi picture. Your head’s going to be spun.” His statement referenced the change in directors from original co-writer and director Scott Derrickson to Raimi.

Olsen Also Praised Raimi’s Direction On The Film

Throughout the sequel’s rocky development, in which Marvel changed the directors due to some creative differences, several sources have cited Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness as one of Marvel’s most ambitious film projects to date.

Olsen, who plays Wanda Maximoff, aka The Scarlet Witch in the sequel, also teased that having Raimi as the film’s director also set it up to be the scariest movie in Marvel history. Combining this statement with Cumberbatch’s teasers has only built up the anticipation for the film.

Her statements also fall in line with previous reports of how Raimi and Waldron scrapped the film’s progress to start from scratch and find their own vision for the movie instead of sticking to the horror foundations built by Derrickson and Jade Halley Bartlett.

There Are Many Fan Theories About The Film

Marvel fans have been abuzz with theories about “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” since the film was first announced. The frenzy reached new levels when the new trailer and poster for the film premiered during the Super Bowl.
