Berlin Film Festival 2025 Dates
Next year’s Berlin Film Festival will run from February 13 to 23. The edition will be Tricia Tuttle’s first as festival head. Tuttle takes over from Executive Director Mariette Rissenbeek and Artistic Director Carlo Chatrian, who stepped down after the last edition. Rissenbeek and Chatrian have been jointly running the festival since 2019 under a dual management structure put in place following the departure of Berlinale long-time director Dieter Kosslick after 18 years at the helm. Tuttle was previously director of the London Film Festival.
Cannes Film Festival Selection Presser
The Cannes Film Festival will announce its official selection on April 11. Presiding over this year’s official competition is Barbie filmmaker Greta Gerwig. Quebecois filmmaker Xavier Dolan will lead the Un Certain Regard Jury. High-profile films currently tipped for the Croisette include George Miller’s Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, which Cannes chief Thierry Frémaux has said he “hopes” will debut at the fest. The film’s May 22 France release date and Miller’s long history with the festival surely make this a Cannes no-brainer.
‘Killers Of The Flower Moon’ Actor Tatanka Means To Lead Neo-Western ‘Shady Cove’
Tatanka Means (Killers of The Flower Moon), Grace Dove (The Revenant), and Golden Globe nominee Irene Bedard (The New World) have signed on to star in the Neo-Western Drama pilot Shady Cove, which is currently shooting in Bend, Oregon. The project is written, directed and executive produced by Baylee Toney (The Redeemer) and Myles Clohessy (The Pendragon Cycle), who both serve as Showrunners. The cast is rounded out with SAG Award winner Robert Clohessy (Bluebloods), Lukas Hassel (The Blacklist), Dana Sparks (Passions), Myles Clohessy (The Pendragon Cycle), Kenneth Ruthardt (Longmire), Kim Jackson Davis (Zatima) and Tom Parnell (Stressed to Kill). The show takes place in the heart of the Pacific Northwest and follows the Sterling family timber empire who own and operate one of the largest and most profitable timber conglomerates in the country. As the Patriarch of the family attempts to expand their sprawling empire to keep the family business afloat against political adversaries, growing climate change, and environmental activists, tensions rise with the neighboring Eagle Claw tribe who fight to protect their ancestral land at all costs.
Screen Scotland Sets New Strategy
Screen Scotland has published its new six-year strategy. Key ambitions include increasing the scale and ambition of film and TV content from Scotland, engaging with audiences across Scotland, and promoting screen education in Scottish schools. Screen Scotland has also pledged to increase the screen sector’s Gross Value Added (GVA) impact on the Scottish economy to £1bn by 2030/31.
