Operation Soteria involved a planned arrangement to meet a seller of a stolen bike at approximately 5.30pm on Tuesday. The bike had been put up for sale on a selling website.

The seller – a man aged in his early 50s – attended the scene with the bike, only to be confronted by Gardaí and the owner of the bike in question. Shortly afterwards, the man was arrested and detained at Crumlin Garda Station.

A follow-up search of a property in Dublin 8 led to the discovery of a further 15 bikes, all believed to have been stolen with the assistance of an angle grinder.

The estimated value of the bikes is believed to be in the region of €7,000.

The arrested man has since been charged in relation to the seizure. Gardaí will endeavour to identify the rightful owners of the stolen bikes in due course.

Items that aren't returned to their owners will be circulated via media outlets over the coming weeks.
