EXCLUSIVE: The CAA agent who brokered the sale of Dreaming Whilst Black to A24 is to head up Emily in Paris producer Jax Media‘s UK division.
Katie Gahamire joins the LA outfit’s London hub as Creative Director, replacing Molly Seymour, who recently moved to BBC Studios. Jax has also signed former Disney Star exec Hussain Casey-Ahmed as Production Executive.
The hires will help Imagine Entertainment-owned Jax expand its UK originals, alongside producing U.S. projects from the UK. Since launch, Jax UK commissions have included Channel 4’s Simon Bird-starrer Everyone Else Burns, which was picked up by The CW and has been recommissioned for a second season, and BBC Three short form show Peck Eds. The hub also made Clem Garritty’s Showtime pilot Jonah Kills.
Gahamire has spent the past six years working across the television and comedy departments at CAA, where she helped sign several British writers and creators including Ms. Marvel scribe Bisha K. Ali, Samson Kayo and Jason Cook.
More recently, she brokered the high-profile sale of BBC/Showtime hit Dreaming Whilst Black to A24, a coup for Adjani Salmon’s buzzy breakout. She got her start in the UK comedy world, working as a live producer for Mick Perrin Worldwide, the BBC and Roughcut, where she worked under now-BBC comedy boss Jon Petrie’s Little A imprint.
Casey-Ahmed previously worked as a Production Executive for Disney Star, where he oversaw greenlight, production and delivery of an initial diverse slate of scripted dramas. He recently produced the short film 7 Minutes directed by Ricky Gervais and the BBC’s Bad Education.
“Katie and Hussain are inspired additions to the Jax Media team,” said Head of TV Dave Binegar and Imagine Entertainment Head of Production Jake Fuller. “They both bring incredible, diverse experience in the UK film and TV industry to these new roles and have genuine enthusiasm for and dedication to the collaborators they work with.”
Seymour moved to BBC Studios Comedy Unit late last year to be Creative Director of the team that makes Inside No. 9 and Good Omens.
Jax’s U.S. shows include the likes of Emily in Paris, Animal Control and Russian Doll.
