Kristen Stewart Shades The Academy Awards

Kristen Stewart doesn’t give a whoop about the Academy or its prestigious awards ceremony.

The actress could be up for an Academy Award nomination for her portrayal of Princess Diana in “Spencer.”

The movie chronicles the late princess’ decision to leave Prince Charles in the winter of 1991.

Stewart recently appeared on Variety’s “Awards Circuit Podcast”, the actress said, “I don’t give a s**t,” about winning the golden Oscar.

She continued to explain why the Oscars are such an obscure thing in her eyes.

“The Oscars are such a funny thing. There are so many incredible movies and performances that barely get seen. It definitely says something about where we’re at as a cumulative presence – what we’re looking at, what we care about,” she explained to show host, Clayton Davis. “I really appreciate that something that I was involved in, has ignited such a large conversation. We don’t make movies to not connect with each other.”

The recently engaged actress spoke about her experience embodying Diana in “Spencer.”

“It’s not every day that you’re a part of projects that are so aptly scrutinized,” she explained. “We leaned in in a big way. Why? It’s a movie about a woman running very, very swiftly towards embodiment, and it’s kind of the first time in cinematic history that we’re kind of allowed to open perspective and really a look inside a more complicated version of what it is to live inside a female body under such scrutiny.

Diana’s former bodyguard, Ken Wharfe, spoke to People about Stewart’s portrayal of the late princess and praised her for her performance.

Wharfe served as Diana’s bodyguard from 1989 to 1993, and he was working for her during the time “Spencer” takes place.

“Out of all the people who have played Diana over the past 10 years, she’s the closest to her,” he told People about Stewart’s acting. “She managed to perfect her mannerisms.”

He explained how hard it was for Diana during the holidays, and how she would choose to spend her time with the kitchen staff or him to pass the time.

“It was purgatory for her,” he continued, adding that she often “confined herself to spending time in the kitchen with the chef or with people like me, in the hope that time would while away, and she could get back to London.”

The last time KStew stopped by the podcast she opened up about paving her way in the directing field.

Stewart is set to make her directing debut in “The Chronology of Water.”
