‘Last Week Tonight’: John Oliver Jokes He’s “Close” To Proving Hugh Jackman Was Brought By A UFO; Dings Tesla For Cybertruck Recall

John Oliver dedicated his latest episode of Last Week Tonight to UFOs and started talking about the topic, making a crazy joke about Hugh Jackman.

“Our main story tonight concerns UFOs,” Oliver said on the HBO late-night show. “They brought us great album art, classic movie moments, and, of course, Hugh Jackman. I can’t prove it yet, but I’m close.”

Oliver then said Kesha, Russell Crowe, and Jimmy Carter have claimed they’ve seen UFOs. The comedian went on to open dialogue to the history of sightings in the sky that sometimes have simple explanations.

“There clearly should be room for sober assessment of UFO sightings,” Oliver said later on in the show. “I will acknowledge that when you do that, the answers you get can sometimes end up being less fun.”

Oliver was talking about an alleged UFO sighting through a night vision recording that was thought to actually be commercial drones.

Earlier in the show, Oliver dinged Tesla’s Cybertruck after a faulty accelerator pedal forced Elon Musk’s company to recall the vehicle.

“The list of things that can break a Cybertruck now includes driving it,” Oliver joked.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) ordered Tesla to recall close to 4,000 vehicles, saying, “An unapproved change introduced lubricant (soap) to aid in the component assembly of the pad onto the accelerator pedal. Residual lubricant reduced the retention of the pad to the pedal.”

According to the recall, the affected Cybertrucks were manufactured from November 13, 2023, to April 4, 2024.
