Meghan Markle Reportedly Won’t Join Prince Harry In The UK Due To ‘Hostility Towards Her’

Meghan Markle's potential return to the UK alongside her husband, Prince Harry, when he visits for the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games remains uncertain.

Harry will make the trip in the coming days ahead of the event. However, Royal experts claim that Meghan will likely not come to the event due to being greeted with "hostility."

The non-working royals are scheduled to tour Nigeria after the UK Trip, where they'll take part in the country's "cultural activities."

The Duke of Sussex may be forced to make the transatlantic trip alone as tensions continue to rise between him, his wife, and the royal family.

According to the U.S. Sun, Royal author Richard Fitzwilliams claimed that Meghan will object to accompanying Harry as she believes her involvement will overshadow the message of the celebration.

Fitzwilliams said the former "Suits" actress' absence shouldn't come as a surprise because it's "obvious" she'll be met with hostility from the royal family.

"I never thought that Meghan would come over because of the hostility towards her, but I mean no one has to emphasize that it's hostile," he told the news outlet.

He also considered that the press wouldn't help matters as they would focus more on the Sussexes' behavior over the last couple of years.

"And anyway, her attendance at the reception would overshadow the message of the service, and you wouldn't want that, as far as Harry is concerned," Fitzwilliams added.

Harry is scheduled to take a reading for the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games, which will be held on May 8 at St. Paul's Cathedral.

The Invictus Games is Harry's multi-sport initiative for wounded, injured, and sick servicemen and women, both serving and veterans. Its first edition was held in 2014 and has subsequently been held in Toronto, Sydney, The Hague, and Dusseldorf.

A spokesperson for the initiative confirmed that the duke would be taking a reading at the event, with actor Damian Lewis lined up to recite the Invictus poem.

"The Invictus Games Foundation will celebrate 10 years of changing lives and saving lives with a 'Service of Thanksgiving' at St Paul's Cathedral on May 8th," a statement published on the Games' social media reads.

"We will be joined by our Patron, Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex, actor Damian Lewis, and members of the worldwide Invictus Community to mark the occasion," they added.

Harry's return to the UK would be his first since he rushed to see his father, King Charles after news of his cancer diagnosis became public knowledge.

On her part, Meghan hasn't stepped foot on UK soil since attending Queen Elizabeth II's funeral in September 2022. She turned down an invitation to attend King Charles' coronation last year as it clashed with Prince Archie's fourth birthday at the time.

Speculations are rife as to whether Harry would be meeting up with his once-beloved sister-in-law, Kate Middleton, after she recently disclosed she was battling cancer in a video message.

The last time he was in the country, he notably snubbed the Waleses, showing how deep the rift in their relationship is.

At the time, Harry said that he was "grateful" to have seen his father and hoped that the diagnosis could have a "reunifying effect" on the Royal Family.

According to the U.S. Sun, the Royal author went on to discuss a potential reunion between Harry and his father, noting that the king had always "kept the door open to Harry."

Speaking of the possibility of a face-to-face meeting upon Harry's trip across the pond, Fitzwilliams said, "So far as Harry is concerned, yes, undoubtedly, I would have thought he would want to see his father."

He recounted how Harry rushed to see Charles when he was diagnosed with cancer, noting that he doesn't expect any issue should Harry want to see the king again.

"The King has always kept the door open to Harry, but that doesn't necessarily mean that he would invariably get a warm reception," Fitzwilliams said."It will take its time. But clearly, the situation has changed in recent weeks beyond all expectations.

"I don't think it would be too difficult, it depends on how you define reconcile," he added.

The Royal expert also shared that he doesn't expect the Sussexes and the Waleses to mend their relationship anytime soon, noting that William's rift with them runs deep and that they "aren't trusted by the Royal Family."

Last week, Buckingham Palace revealed that the monarch plans to resume public duties for the first time since he announced his cancer diagnosis.

A statement from the palace read, "His Majesty The King will shortly return to public-facing duties after a period of treatment and recuperation following his recent cancer diagnosis."

It continued, "To help mark this milestone, The King and Queen will make a joint visit to a cancer treatment center next Tuesday, where they will meet medical specialists and patients."

The palace further noted: "His Majesty's medical team are very encouraged by the progress made so far and remain positive about the king's continued recovery. Forthcoming engagements will be adapted where necessary to minimize any risks to His Majesty's continued recovery."
