Don Cheadle Confirmed To Appear In MCU Series ‘Secret Invasion’

Marvel fans are most definitely eating good at the moment with the release of titles like “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” “Eternals,” “Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings,” and several others. The MCU apparently still has more to come.

Marvel shows and movies set to make an appearance this year include “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,” “Secret Invasion,” “Ms Marvel,” “Moon Knight” and others. “Secret Invasion” will possibly premiere late this year or early in 2023. It’ll feature Samuel L. Jackson‘s return to his role as Nick Fury and some other Marvel stars.

One Marvel star that’ll return to the screen in “Secret Invasion” is Don Cheadle. Jackson confirmed the actor’s return in a recent interview mentioning that this was the first time the two would work together despite being buddies.

Jackson’s last appearance as Nick Fury was in the post-credits scene of “Spider-Man: Far From Home.” That scene showed that Fury was never really on earth and that his spot was taken by Talos. Marvel fans are understandably anxious to know more about this twist, and according to new information, they just might.

“Secret Invasion” is a Marvel project not much is known about, but it will apparently bring back familiar faces. Actors like Cobie Smulders and Ben Mendelssohn will be in attendance. Some new additions will include Emilia Clarke, Christopher McDonald, and Olivia Coleman.

The Marvel series will also feature the return of Don Cheadle as James “Rhodey” Rhodes, also known as War Machine. This was confirmed via a set photo of a newspaper which showed Cheadle exchanging a handshake with the President of the United States. His appearance in the series will be the first since he showed up briefly in “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.”

Besides the newspaper clippings, Jackson confirmed Cheadle’s return to the Marvel set.  As per The Playlist, The “Shank” actor came on the Josh Horwitz’s Happy Sad Confused podcast and talked about his time doing joint scenes with the “Iron Man 2” actor. He said that while they’d never worked together before, the upcoming Disney+ series gave them the perfect opportunity.

He said, “C’mon, man, you walk on the set, Emilia’s amazing… Ben Mendelsohn he’s awesome. Don, Don Cheadle… I got Don; that’s my golf buddy. I didn’t realize it, but till we did this thing, I was like, ‘We’ve never worked together.'”

The “Hitman’s Bodyguard” actor added that he mainly had a cordial relationship with Cheadle. They knew each other enough to “hang out and laugh” but never got into the same professional space until recently.

Cheadle’s War Machine is highly anticipated in “Secret Invasion,” and via Jackson’s interview, the character will only make more than the expected cameo appearance. Now it’s obvious that the “Hotel Rwanda” star shot several scenes in the Marvel series with Jackson.

While his role in the series isn’t entirely clear, it might aid his Disney+ series titled “Armor Wars.” The show is expected to start after “Secret Invasion” is released on the streaming site.

“Secret Invasion” is still majorly action, some aspects of it will be a political thriller. This is because a number of popular government agents in the Marvel Universe will likely make an appearance. One person likely to be in “Secret Invasion” is Martin Freeman.

Jackson mentioned working with the actor while talking about his other co-actors. He reportedly yelled “Martin Freeman” to the crowd during the interview. Freeman’s character in the Marvel Universe was as CIA agent Everett K. Ross. He first showed up in “Captain America: Civil War” and then in “Black Panther.”

‘Secret Invasion’ Might Air By The End Of The Year

“Secret Invasion” will focus on the invasion of shapeshifting aliens known as the Skrulls. While they were tagged the villains in the Marvel comics, “Captain Marvel” showed them in a different light and dubbed the Kree as the villains.

We know for sure to expect a younger Nick Fury in some parts of the movie. Jackson made the announcement via an Instagram post a while back. There isn’t much known about the entire plotline or all the new additions to the cast.

Production for the series is apparently underway, and the first episode might premiere by the end of this year or in early 2023. Other Marvel titles like “Ms Marvel,” “She-Hulk,” and “Moon Knight” are all expected to roll out this year. “Secret Invasion” will air on Disney+.
