Gigi Hadid ripped for comparing conflicts in Ukraine and Palestine

Gigi Hadid was slammed for comparing the Russian invasion of Ukraine to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Hadid, who is Palestinian, made the connection while announcing Sunday that she would be donating her Paris Fashion Week earnings to Ukrainian relief.

“I am pledging to donate my earnings from the Fall 2022 shows to aid those suffering from the war in Ukraine, as well as continuing to support those experiencing the same in Palestine,” she wrote in a post to her Instagram.

She added, “Our eyes and hearts must be open to all human injustice. May we all see each other as brothers and sisters, beyond politics, beyond race, beyond religion. At the the [sic] end of the day, innocent lives pay for war- not leaders. HANDS OFF UKRAINE. HANDS OFF PALESTINE. PEACE. PEACE. PEACE.”

But several critics were quick to drag Hadid, 26, for comparing the tragedies overseas.

“When Israel is painted as oppressive, Jews all over the world pay the price. Numbers don’t lie: anti-Israel messaging leads directly to antisemitic attacks globally,” Hasbara Fellowships Canada, which supports pro-Israel advocates on university campuses, tweeted in response to Hadid’s message.

“I stand against all suffering BUT false equivalents DONT help,” English actress Tracy-Ann Oberman wrote on Twitter.

Vogue’s Instagram and Twitter were also flooded with messages of disapproval after the magazine reposted Hadid’s message to its Instagram account Sunday.

“I can’t believe @voguemagazine is supporting this false and dangerous narrative..’experiencing the same in Palestine’ well done @voguemagazine fanning the flames of anti semitism,” former “Entourage” star Emmanuelle Chriqui commented.

“It is totally irresponsible of you @voguemagazine to publish a quote comparing Russian actions in Ukraine with Israel. As a Jewish woman, I am appalled and scared. Do your research before publishing hate. You are contributing to antisemitism,” a reader tweeted.

“So you’re saying Israel is like Russia? This is absurd and misleading. So ridiculous that you took an antisemitic stance, @voguemagazine…No connection here,” another wrote on Instagram.

“‘Experiencing the same in Palestine’ is utter garbage and untrue. Please stop supporting anti Semitism,” one more Instagram user agreed.

Vogue edited its caption Tuesday to delete any mention of Palestine following the criticism.

A source at Vogue told Page Six on Tuesday that Vogue “condemns anti-Semitism,” and that their Instagram post was “directly quoting [Hadid]” and has since “been updated.”

Others, however, backed Hadid’s stance and commended her for bringing Palestine into the conversation, including designers Phillip Lim, Diane von Furstenberg and Donatella Versace as well as fellow model Elsa Hosk.

Hadid’s rep did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
