The solicitor from Dublin is the first Irish person elected to the role in recent times, with others in the past including William McArthur who was born in Donegal and took office in 1880.
One of the world's oldest continuously elected civic offices, the role goes back over 800 years - being formed in 1189.
The term lasts one year, with the Lord Mayor of London serving as the elected head of the City of London Corporation.

Having assumed office on Friday, the Lord Mayor's Show on Saturday was the first public engagement of Keaveny as the new mayor.

As part of this, the Lord Mayor, preceded by a procession, travels to the Royal Courts of Justice in Westminster to swear allegiance to the Crown.
Having been cancelled last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the 2021 Lord Mayor’s Procession included full-size model elephants, Japanese drummers, a horse-drawn bus, the tallest fire engine in Europe, as well as the Lord Mayor’s State Coach.
